change - Barack Obama ready to slash US nuclear arsenal

Barack Obama has demanded the Pentagon conduct a radical review of US nuclear weapons doctrine to prepare the way for deep cuts in the country's arsenal, the Guardian can reveal.

Obama has rejected the Pentagon's first draft of the "nuclear posture review" as being too timid, and has called for a range of more far-reaching options consistent with his goal of eventually abolishing nuclear weapons altogether, according to European officials.

Those options include:

• Reconfiguring the US nuclear force to allow for an arsenal measured in hundreds rather than thousands of deployed strategic warheads.

• Redrafting nuclear doctrine to narrow the range of conditions under which the US would use nuclear weapons.

• Exploring ways of guaranteeing the future reliability of nuclear weapons without testing or producing a new generation of warheads.

Typical of libs slashing constitutional requirements (defense) and spend a shit ton of money on unconstitutional items.  :mental:

It's rather hard to imagine a plausible doctrinal posture under which we would be even less likely to use them than what we have currently.

This posture comes to mind.

I don't have a problem with this.  We've got more then enough right now.  Cut our nukes by 1/4 and we'll still have plenty to turn Russia, China, and all the Middle East into glass parking lots.

Cutting our nukes by 25% would be okay, but I think he has much more drastic cuts in mind.  Say , cutting our nukes to less than 25% of their current numbers.

As far as total numbers go, I agree, and there's nothing crucial about the 1/4, but this is presented like he is talking about reduction by much more, perhaps an entire order of magnitude, and basically curtailing any research on improving those that are left.  The part that concerns me is further handicapping a doctrine that is already so restrictive that none of our prospective opponents really believe that the end of the Cold War leaves any condition under which we would ever use them first (And correctly so)...and of course the goal of complete elimination of them, which is unbelievably naive and dangerous.

It seems to me that Obama has all these great ideas, if their taken in moderation.  But he's gotta blow them up so huge that they'll be disasterous.

Once again proving that all the internet rumors about the radical leftist agenda of Obama were spot on.

Hell, we need to compile 'em into a book.

No we don't, it'd read too damned similar to Mein Kampf.

I wonder if Berry Big Ears has figured out just where all the troops are going to go when they have no jobs? Whats going to happen to the local economies when fewer or no troops are on those bases working to maintain those nukes or if the worse happenes to fire those nukes off to their targets?
