For those of you who aren't on my facebook, I'll post a few pictures.
We thought it was really weird having this bathroom in the kitchen as there is only one way in and out of the kitchen and thought no one would use it. We considered making it a pantry but after living there awhile and figuring out that we use it we are going to keep it. Someone (you know who you are) had to comment on the toilet seat being left up.........I guess I deserved that.
I don't like the yellow, it's too bright. Going to have to paint it.
Kitchen ~ It is much smaller than my Texas kitchen. Better appliances and probably more expensive granite (and custom cabinets, my old kitchen had just upgraded standard cabinets). The layout is really weird but I'm getting use to it. I forgot to take a picture of door to the back yard. It's a pretty door. It has glass with the same pattern as the glass in the cabinet doors (even tough you can't see the patten in the glass in the pictures).
The travertine floor is a mess. You can't tell from the pictures but there is grout all over the tiles and needs to be refinished (you can apparently refinish travertine).
The bottom oven is locked and we can't unlock it. Going to have to get someone out to fix it.

Very nice!

Front door ~ there are two front doors but this is suppose to be the front door.
Our dining room. The chandelier is going. We already bought a new light fixture. My husband is going to have to center the new light fixture on the table. I was concerned with the table because it is huge (102" long and very wide). Thought we would have to buy a new one but I think we can make it work.
Looking out the windows in the dining room onto the porch. The house has a wrap around porch. The window sills of these windows are ruined from the previous owners dog. He would slobber and sit his chin on the sills. They are natural black walnut. My husband met the woodworker who did all the trim and doors in the house, he is going to ask him to refinish them.
-
These are awesome! I love the kitchen granite and cabinets.
-
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Foam_Kitty/IMG_4524.jpg)
The stairs. I don't like the carpet, it has dog hair embedded in it. I have vacuumed it at least 5 times and there is still dog hair. We are replacing the carpet in the house (the three bedrooms, landing and stairs) as it was filthy. I'm not talking OCD filthy, I'm talking a hoarder would find it disgusting. At first I was considering leaving the carpet on the stairs but after I found out I can't get the dog hair out of it I changed my mind. We had the carpet cleaned by the way and it is still gross.
The hallway looking from my older daughters room into the study. The color of the walls make me want to puke. It is a cross between a dusty rose and poop brown.
The study. It use to be the master bedroom. The previous owner had a TV on the wall above the monitor. I'm going to get me one too. :-)
We need to get matching chairs. :p Oh yeah and hide the kids computer in the skinny drawer next to it.
The woodwork in the study is cherry. The door is half cherry and half black walnut. The side you can see is the black walnut.
The "other" front door.
The door in the study looking out to the porch.
-
Very nice indeed.
-
Wow that is beatiful. Some really nice wood work.

Beautiful House BEG!

The most beautiful part of that house wasn't even pictured.
BEG herself.

The living room. I didn't have a living room in our old house. I'm going to change the window treatments but give their window treatments back to them when I change them. They are sentimental to the previous owners. His mother made them and the material is from her country (I think she is from Germany or something).
The yellow is too mustardy, another room I will have to paint. I think we will have to paint every room. Oh and I need a rug.
At first I didn't like the fireplace. It is onyx (and I thought onyx was black) and I thought it was a tad gaudy but it is starting to grow on me. My husband is going to paint the gold part of the screen a flat black and I think it will make me like it more. I don't know what to put over the fireplace. The huge mirror on the wall by the dining room table is next to the fireplace so I can't just put a mirror over it. **Don't look at all the crap on the floor** :p
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Foam_Kitty/IMG_4522-2.jpg)
This is the doorway to the den. He had it set up for his TV. It's all wired for surround sound so I guess we will use it for watching TV and mount the tv on the wall. That room is a mess so I will post pictures of it when I get it all put together. The floor in that room is so crooked that we will have to put shims under that piece of furniture you see there.

Ok I know you are lying but I don't even care. You are my new internet boyfriend.

I seldom lie my dear.

May I see your bedroom? :naughty:
-
I saw them on FB and I think it looks groovy (do they still say that in LA?) .... glad you are feeling better about it. You will have that house BEG-i-fied in no time at all! Sophia and I are comin' to town!
-
May I see your bedroom? :naughty:
NO....it is painted PINK. I shit you not. At first I thought it was some shade of white until I looked closer. Went out in the garage and found the paint can...the color is called Blush. The thing is our bathroom, Sarah's bedroom and Lauren's bedroom is also painted blush.

Oh I still feel the same about it all. I have accepted the fact that I'm stuck here for at least a couple of years. I may end up liking it but I wont like it willingly. :p

Yep, the years will fly by, good or bad, they always do.

Love the house, BEG!
-
Pretty house :)
-
I saw them on facebook. It looks like an interesting house/layout...I can't wait to see the improvements after it is "BEGified"!
-
Very nice for a "humble abode", BEG.
Me, I'll take the simpler house with the land for now. The house I can always improve later.
-
Damn, that is one nice McMansion.
-
I pulled a schade and took a picture of myself. It's been so long since I have done this that I forgot how to do it. It took me at least 30 minutes to figure out how to use the timer on my camera.
I need my hair cut (and colored) so badly that I resorted to looking up different salons around the area and reading reviews. I have an appointment next wednesday for those of you who are worried about the state of my hair.

Sparky there are several rooms that need improvement. The main bathroom that guests will use when they are visiting is the original bathroom. It's clean but ugly. Our master bathroom while being remodeled in the last 8 years needs to be remodeled again because it was done very stupidly. The TV room has a fireplace that use to be an incinerator. It is HUGE and ugly, we are going to take it out.

Nice bra.

I mean this in the most respectful, dignified way possible.

You talked me into keeping the carpet on the stairs.

Thanks, I wore it just for you.

Aint going to happen. :p
Here are the other two pictures, they look just like the previous picture. There is one with me smiling but I don't like it so I'm not posting it. When you smile for a camera where no one is holding it it feels really strange and fake.

I need to get back into my ho-ness.
I see this will require more than just roses.
-
You talked me into keeping the carpet on the stairs.
:-)
I take it you tried the brush idea. With 4 cats, I have found it's the only thing that works.
-
I need to get back into my ho-ness.
Is that kind of like getting your groove back? :lmao:
Go check facebook I posted some new pics. :-)

I need my hair cut (and colored) so badly that I resorted to looking up different salons around the area and reading reviews. I have an appointment next wednesday for those of you who are worried about the state of my hair.
I'll have to contact the ex. There's a place on Harbor in downtown Fullerton she's been going since before we met.

I don't have the new number.
(714) XXX-XXXX
I'll leave it to your fevered imagination to guess the rest.

Damn, that is one nice McMansion.
Nah, what I had when I lived in CA was more a "McMansion". Similar interior features, although the house was smaller (1500 sq. ft.) and the lot, if you can believe it, was 65'X48', or a whopping 3120 square feet.
I'm guessing, based on how old BEG said the original house was and where it's located, that the lot size is about 7000 square feet--not huge, but decent by OC standards. At least it takes more than 10 minutes to mow the lawn. The ex's lot is almost 10K square feet, which is damn good sized for that area.
Then again, I'm accused of living in a McMansion now because I don't have at least 5 acres.
-

Lolz, mines 19000. neeener.

I said my OLD house lot was 3120 square feet. My current home sits on over an acre--a "small" lot by local standards.

All in good time. I know it takes time, effort, and LOTS of money to make a house "just right". I mean, if I had 50K I could dump it into my house with NO problem, just finishing the basement, putting on a larger front porch, a little more landscaping, etc...
Oh, and the ex suggested Lux Salon on Commonwealth (also in Fullerton). I think the stylist she uses is Chanel.
-
Hopefully our house will look that nice when we're done fixing it up. That should be, oh, 30 years from now. :thatsright:
It's a really beautiful house, B. You'll fit right in. :-)
As far as the dog hair in the stairs carpet, you should try a Rainbow. No, not the kind that Obama's shooting out of his hinder. It's a "cleaning system" (aka a vacuum, but don't let them hear you call it that) that's kind of spendy, but really, really good. Better than anything you can buy in a store.
-
BEG, SLW and I were looking at the pics and you guys have a greyt looking place!
I would have lost that carpet on the stairs...hate it.
The kitchen is a strange setup but I'd get used to it pretty quickly. The granite
is very nice as is the stove.
I certainly wouldn't complain if that place fell into my lap. :-)
I didn't like a lot of the paint colors either but that is
easy to change.
Nice place! Hope you guys are happy there.

Question for those in the know....how hard would it be to take out the blue tiles you see in the shower and replace them with the same size tile (but a different color)?
-
Don't like granite? If I had the money/time, that's what I'd do. But to take out those small tiles on the sides? I guess you could do it if you were REALLY careful not to screw up the white tiles adjacent to it.
Might not be worth the effort, tho.

I like the style of the bathroom I just don't like the fact that those accent tiles are blue. It limits the options on wall color.

A nice blue/gray wallcolor would look beautiful with those tile accents...white and blue are a great color choice..imo. My kitchen has white crisp cabinets, stainless steel appliances and a blue steel colored granite.

But that is the bathroom right off the kitchen and the kitchen isn't the same style. Blue would look wrong I think for the wall color with the kitchen. I agree that it would look good with the style of the bathroom and the color of the tiles though.
-
What if you left the beadboard white, leave the blue tiles, and paint the walls a soft milk chocolate color or even a cafe au lait?
-
BEG, I really don't see the blue tile. Is it up at the top?
If you don't want to tackle the BIG PROJECT just yet, make the blue work for you in the meanwhile. Use a rust or dark salmon color as your first evident secondary accent color and a buttery yellow as your second subtle secondary accent color.
My major decorating tips for this season:
-Do NOT use painted milk cans inside.
-Stay away from large free-hand or stenciled daisies.
-
BEG - have you thought about painting the blue tiles? It could be painted white and then it would blend in.
-
BEG - have you thought about painting the blue tiles? It could be painted white and then it would blend in.
Actually I had thought of doing that. They wont get wet because they are so high in the shower but I worry that it will look obvious. The more I live in this house the more I wonder what the heck they were thinking with their paint color choices and a few of their other choices. Wait until I take a picture of our other fireplace. It originally was an incinerator that they turned into a fireplace. It looks stupid.

It's not hard per se, but unless you know what you are doing you can really screw things up. It can be pretty time consuming to do right.
