Obama to Speak on Service at Texas A&M, Home of George H.W. Bush Library

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- President Obama will hold a presidential forum on community service at Texas A&M University in the George Bush Presidential Library Center Oct. 16. The forum will be hosted by former President George H.W. Bush and the Points of Light Institute.

"It is a tremendous honor to have the sitting President of the United States on the Texas A&M campus for the second time in less than a year," Texas A&M Interim President R. Bowen Loftin said. "This speaks volumes to our status as one of the top universities in the country and the long legacy of Aggies' selfless service for our country."

According to a White House press release, the event builds upon President Obama's "United We Serve" call to service, which challenges all Americans to help lay a new foundation for growth in this country by engaging in sustained, meaningful community service.

I hope Uncle Eg0 isn't expecting a warm welcome there.  TAMU is quite conservative, especially when compared to other big universities.

Was going to post something similar in response to your title alone.  A&M is VERY conservative.

I bet the ACORN & SEIU a-holes will be bussed in from Austin & Houston to make it appear that they love dear leader. :whatever:

Yep, they can find plenty of liberals at t.u. in the People's Republik of Austin.

As usual, the event will be prescreened, and no conservatives allowed. Dissent is NOT patriotic.  :lmao:

I dare him to come to Midland, Tx and try to make that speech.

Tex Libs when running for statewide office are scared to come anywhere west of Brady or Llano.

Which is such a shame, because Austin is such a fun & beautiful city.

And on top of that Bergstrom AFB used to be there a well.  I guess the zomies that were stationed there must have felt like the Zoomies stationed in Lib states like Calif.

Yup, I grew up in Austin.  I went to TAMU because I wanted a better education than I could get at t.u., plus I wouldn't have put up with all the libs if I had been paid to go there.

I was just down in Austin a month and a half ago. I was less than impressed. It's not a place where I would want to visit on a regular basis. One of the problems with Texas, I'm discovering, is that too many people from the North are moving here and bringing their liberal philosophies with them. Once here, they are forcing their liberal ideologies down our throats. I guess this is why there is such a pride in being a Native Texan.

I was on State active duty with my Guard unit when they started the bombing in Afghanistan.  Within three hours of President Bush's announcement...there were protestors in front of the Capitol protesting.

:bird: Libs.  You should have your residency revoked.  You're not Texans.

You sure they were protesting?  Maybe they were just community organizing.   :fuelfire:

I bet they all had dog-eared and highlighted copies of Rules for Radicals.

My detatchment commander taught film at UT.  A couple of his fellow instructors found out that he was a Major in the Texas Army National Guard and they right then and there refused to talk to him any more.

Freakin moonbats! :thatsright:

I'm not a native Texan, but went to school up I-35 at Horned Frog U.  Fort Worth was reasonably conservative, as was the school for the most part.

The libs (Californians, especially) ruined Colorado the same way.

His "Call to service" would have a lot more credibility if he had ever sacrificed to serve himself, instead of having so much handed to him, and if his career showed a record of taking actions did not first and foremost protect his record and further his own political ambitions.

I will agree with that.  But daggum, that is pretty much the nicest part of Texas, geographically speaking only, of course.  And that is a dang shame.

Surprisingly Austin pulled 8,000 conservatives to the Capitol on July 4th......that # came from the liberal Austin Rag (AAS).   I had no idea so many conservatives were in hiding.....
Don't give up on Austin many of us are doing our best to turn the tide!

Welcome to CC!  Austin is a beautiful city, and I'd love to  :hammer: all the libs, but that might take weeks.

Naw; just herd 'em all into the stadium on TU campus.  Stand on the 50-yard line and hammer the nearest Moonbat.  They'll trample each other to death trying to get away from you after that.  By the time the stadium is empty, you only have a few dozen at most to run down.

Hi,

We lived in Austin for awhile.  The libs are pretty well concentrated in the downtown area.  When we lived there the city council passed a law that any city employee could put thier live in lover on their health insurance.  Well all the gays did that and many had aids and the health insurance costs went through the roof.  Well there is a provision that if you don't like a law you can get a petition and get enough signatures and it goes on a ballot for the public to vote.   The yard signs and demonstratons were a bit unique to say the least.....including gay pride weekend at Lake Travis. My wife and I had a houseboat at the time and spent the weekend on the boat, observing things we had never seen before nor likely will we ever see again.....

Well 80% of the vote went to repeal the law and that was that.   The libs are loud, vocal and visible but when we were there they were outnumbered.  In many ways I wish we were still in TX.

BO needs to be careful in aggieland.  About time for homecoming and he sure does not want to get close to the bonfire......

In my daughters senior year at Austin Westlake their football team played in the Astrodome for the state finals.  There were more folks in the Astrodome on Saturday for the high school games than next day when the Oilers played.  The Westlake quarterback was a kid named Jay Rodgers who ended up playing at the University of Indiana.  The backup QB was a sophomore kid who they said might be pretty good......his name was Drew Breese.

I have to tell you he was by far the best high school passer I had ever seen.  He would hit receivers 40 yards downfield and they would not break stride because the ball was thrown that well.  I think that is what separates him from so many is his incredible accuracy.

If TX ever decides to leave the union likely we would be there in a heartbeat.  Talking to a realtor in San Antonio over the summer.

regards,
5412

I was born in Austin near the UT campus during my Daddy's senior year there (back to home in West Texas after he graduated). Then I returned to Austin later to attend UT myself. I was in the Young Republican's group while there. We had more members than you'd think. Just like elsewhere, the sane outnumber the libs there when it gets down to it. The libs are just more vocal and get more media attention. I didn't like living there and couldn't wait to get moved after school, but mainly cause I'm just more of a small town person.

Agree with you Thor, way too many yankees there now. They seem to gravitate to Austin for some reason.

I have no doubt at all that the Aggies will be nothing but curteous to Barry. That's how Aggies are, they will not like it; but they will be respectful of the POTUS holder.

Yeah. I remember the protest that time as a student at UT-Austin that time. I could not believe they were protesting.

Yeah, Austin is a beautiful and cool city. I lived there. The Yankees ruined it.
