Charity: US troops stormed through Afghan hospital

Source: AP

KABUL – A Swedish charity accused American troops Monday of storming through a hospital in central Afghanistan, breaking down doors and tying up staff in a search for militants. The U.S. military said it was investigating.

The allegation that soldiers violated the neutrality of a medical facility follows the reported deaths of Afghan civilians in a U.S. airstrike in the country's north last week.

The U.S. troops came to the hospital looking for Taliban insurgents late at night last Wednesday, Fange said. He said they kicked in doors, tied up four hospital employees and two family members of patients, and forced patients out of beds during their search.

When they left two hours later, the unit ordered hospital staff to inform coalition forces if any wounded militants were admitted, and the military would decide if they could be treated, Fange said.

The staff refused, he said. "That would put our staff at risk and make the hospital a target."

48. Obama's war in Afghanistan is a disaster

You're right, this war will be worse than Vietnam. This escalation is just the beginning.
What would you like on your Pizza?

25. At some point, the individuals who execute the orders must take some responsibility

Look at Nazi Germany...

They were 'just following orders'....

I can't be proud of our troops for the actions in Iraq & Afghanistan because they have killed untold numbers of innocent people for no purpose other then corporate greed.

If troops from another country came here and executed such horrors, would you hold them blameless for 'just following orders'...

There is a choice, undoubtedly very hard. But, moral men and women should lay down arms in rebellion before killing in the name of greed and empire.

Yes, those who ordered it must be held to the strongest account. But, the responsibility lies with those who execute murder, as well.
Nope, the CinC is responsible for all legal orders that are followed.

Many of us on DU are incredibly naive!
Yes, yes, you are.

19. Talk about naive

Hospitals are protected from this kind of action by international law.

Article 14 of the Geneva Conventions specifically.

Apparently you side with Bush when it comes to the conventions.
President Bush is no longer president, so who is the CinC involved in violating the Geneva Convention?  :loser:

41. Obama is a continuation of Bush

"Apparently you side with Bush when it comes to the conventions". Obama is Commander in Chief now not Bush. This is not what we expected when we elected him. This is bullshit.
Ooh, another suicide runner.  :evillaugh:

A fun bonfire.

Funny how I don't hear you fifth columnists complaining about the terrorists repeated violations of neutrality.

The only time you asses care about the "Geneva Conventions" is when it suites your purposes to do so, in order to undermine the allied efforts or to provide aid and comfort to a bunch of criminal vermin that AREN'T COVERED by it.

If they were in hot pursuit, it wasn't the US troops "Violtaing the neutrality."  However, the press seems as poorly-informed on this point as the DUmmies, both are dying to blame the US troops based solely on uninvestigated allegations.

Like troops from another country could last 24 hours if they came here....

Unless they landed in NY, LA or San Fran, then they would be cheered as conquering heroes....

"poorly-informed" my fluffy, cotton-tailed ass.

They know full well what the truth is; they simply excise the parts that are inconvenient to defeating the US.

Come on DAT.  You don't actually expect the DUmmies to know anything about ROE's do you?  Their knowledge of how the military works comes from things like HBO movies from the 90's.   :whatever:

If those dumb bastards are going to start screaming "War crime!" like a bunch of gay harpies on crack, they ought to at least take the time to read up a little on exactly what a war crime really is under Geneva/Hague, in particular the law of protected places.

If they did that...it would take away all of their cute little slogans they scream.  Can't have that now can we? :-)

And then they'd look and feel as foolish as mike_c did when I gave him a verbal beatdown over his "all troops are war criminals" meme.

Captain Hanzlik told Fox News that members of Task Force 82, which includes members of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division, were chasing insurgents who had recently detonated an Improvised Explosive Device, or roadside bomb.

<snip>

Those forces, he said, had strong reason to believe that an insurgent commander was in the hospital and explained these concerns to hospital staff before seeking permission to enter the hospital.

Coalition forces, which included members of the Afghan National Army and Police, then entered the hospital with permission from the staff, the military said. "No one was tied up," according to Hanzlik. "However, one locked door was kicked in, but again with permission from the hospital."

In a FOX News exclusive, Lt James Peck, who was the on scene commander, said they spoke with the hospital staff before entering any of the rooms.

"They didn't have keys for two doors. The rest they were able to open with keys, but the two they didn't have keys for, we asked them first if we could enter, and they said if we desired we could enter."

Peck told FOX News they told the hospital they would fix the doors if they needed help.

"We asked permission before we forcibly entered the rooms," he told FOX. "We only forcibly entered because we didn't have a way of getting into the rooms."

lol.

Those same dumb bastards were screaming "Impeachment NOW!" for 8 years. There was no crime, mind you, but...

When have they ever let fact get in the way of a good anti-military, anti-Bush, or anti-US rant?
