Title: Edmunds True Market Value
Post by: Gratiot on September 02, 2009, 11:21:11 AM
Does anyone have any idea how accurate this tends to be?  I've always been under the impression that it was far more realistically accurate than Kelly Blue Book values.  As well as being based on actual sales data, atleast as it was reported to the various state agencies.

I've been looking at picking up a Jeep Wrangler as a fun weekend car and Ive been bewildered by their listing prices.  I know they tend to retain their values much better than other cars.  That the inline six engines run essentially for ever.  While also always being in demand... however Im seeing listings everywhere for thousands more than the Edmunds TMV.

I have no idea what Edmunds says........but I can tell you that I just sold my wife's '95 Wrangler (6 cyl.,Loaded, HT with factory air), and 40,000 miles for $8,500........since I only paid 17k for it new, I would say that they depreciate very little.

40,000miles/14years = ~2857miles/year.  Is your wife the proverbial little old lady that only drove the car to church on Sundays?  :-)

KBB's numbers come from the west coast. I've found N.A.D.A. to be a little more accurate.

Actually it was used largely as a shopping cart, until her vision deteriorated to the point where she could not drive.....

I just came back from a dealer which had a 95 with 159,000 miles... for nearly that same price.  $7,995
I would have bought yours for that much in a heart beat.  Instead, I'm now looking at a '05 (loaded-mint) with low miles for about $14,000

Actually it was used largely as a shopping cart, until her vision deteriorated to the point where she could not drive.....

I'm sorry to hear that she has had such painful problems with her health.  Many prayers and good thoughts for the future.
