Title: Undies or anyone else who has AT&T Uverse...
Post by: BEG on August 24, 2009, 06:47:12 PM
I signed up for AT&T Uverse today because Undies had posted about it in another thread. I checked it out after he mentioned it but it wasn't available in our area. Then we stopped by our new house and the sellers were outside and told us to stop.  The husband told us that Uverse had just become available in the area so I decided to sign up. They won't be installing until next week.

Anyway, for those of you who have it what do you think of it so far?  I was just reading reviews and now I'm worried that I will hate it. Although the reviews I read were from 2007 & 2008.

I like it a lot.  It fits me to a T.

Keep positive.  I think you will like it.  It has changed and upgraded in the last year.  Now I can record and watch from all TVs.

I have had it for about a year and a half. The only thing that I don't like about it is if you get shut off they charge you $30 per service to turn you back on,also it takes them close to 24 hours to turn it back on! :-) I love the fact you can watch your dvr from any room in the house! Also I think the dvr is pretty big or maybe the shows i have recorded go onto a server of some kind but it seems I never run out of space! :-) Btw! get their top internet speed it is actually just as fast as cable internet as far as I can tell! :cheersmate:

What do you mean by if you get "shut off"?  Do you mean if you get it turned off for non payment or for some reason beyond your control?  If it is because you didn't pay the bill then I think the service charge is justified but if it's because of equipment or something beyond your control then that $30 fee is crap.

I considered it until I signed up for a "three pack" with AT&T, for DSL, cellular, and unlimited LD on my landline.  After four months they have YET to issue me a correct invoice for these services........they have billed me for services that I did not subscribe to, billed me the incorrect price for the services that I did enroll in, and lastly, but certainly not the least, they are now telling me that the plans that I enrolled in don't qualify for the package discount.

Add to that......their customer service function borders on being the absolute WORST in the world.......don't call about a problem unless you have at least two hours to sit in hold, and be transferred around from department to department (with long hold times on each transfer).......I ended up writing to the CEO, and finally got someone from their "Executive Office" staff that is supposed to resolve my issues, but I don't have much confidence that it will actually happen based on FOUR MONTHS of lengthy phone calls, and idiot service reps, both here in the US, as well as in India.

My advice would be to avoid anything from AT&T like the plague..........

Trust me, they're not nearly as bad as Fairpoint.  Not possible to be any worse than them.  Is YOUR phone/cable company under investigation in three states?

Actually, they are under indictment here for unauthorized overbilling of community surcharges.......and there are five "class action" lawsuits going now on similar topics, in just one state.....AT&T is the worst by far.....

And they're looking at similar situations with Fairpoint.  Hell, VT is trying to pull their license to do business in the state.

I've had great service from AT&T.  Nothing I read here has been my experience.

I was having an internet problem back in June.  I called and they had me fix and on the run in 10 minutes.

My service has never been suspended due to lack of payment, so I really can't comment on that.

I don't realy have a problem so much with the service charge but I have a bad habit of paying them last as it's not essential. What irritates me is when they do shut you off it takes them forever to turn you back on even after you pay the full bill! Their customer service isn't all that great IMO!

As a former cable tv & head end tech, I can easily say that the cable companies that provide phone service are LAME!!! They don't take their subscribers seriously, nor do they provide the same level of readiness/availability that the Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) provides. One company I worked for, Seren Innovations, did take their subscribers/ services seriously, but it cost them lots of $$$$$$.  Comcast, Cable One and many others just should be restricted from providing phone service because they can't keep dial tone at the homes as well as POTS. The best internet/video/phone service I had was through the phone company that provided all of their services over a twisted pair. The phone NEVER failed, even during a power outage. The Internet only ever failed when a server when down and the video was crystal clear and rarely ever failed, even during severe storms. The local cable companies in the area would be out for 12-16 hours, sometimes more.

Years ago I worked in Customer Service/Sales for what is now AT&T again...it was Ameritech, then Ameritech/SBC back then...damn good job when it came to pay and benefits, but alot of pressure & stress..some of those billing issues could be nightmares.

AT&T was in the cable biz in the late 90's and wanted to try and provide landline via cable......they failed big time in Illinois and the cable company changed names once again. LOL

I go back to the days when there was a local "business office" that you could call, and your problems were generally resolved by one person, on the spot........they have the nerve to call this "progress"....
