Title: My baby doing Irish Celtic dance
Post by: Schadenfreude on August 23, 2009, 04:25:23 PM
A bit of a spur of the moment performance. The stage was quite a bit smaller than they are used to dancing on, they improvised. Sophia is the third girl that gets up onto the stage.

They were good, it must take a lot of practice to keep time together like that.

Thanks Bijou. Even with a dance style like that, there is not much room for error. Still they're 10 years old and pretty good in spite of that sort of  "flaky" age.  :)

There's a lot of cloggers up here in the NC mountains.  I enjoy it but get winded just watching them.  Nice to see your daughter likes it.

Definitely good cardio exercise. So are these NC cloggers Irish descent? I don't know much about the origins of clogging.

Yeah, lots of Irish-Scottish settled in this area.  I think it's a combination of British Isles with some Cherokee mixed it (and this area was Cherokee when founded).  They have a big Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in Asheville, NC every year and clogging is the big event.

They have the Scottish Highlands Festival in your area, too.  I haven't had a chance to go, but my aunt has been to a couple family reunions there.

I might have to get myself over that direction!
