European Groups Ban 'Racist' Everyday Phrases

...

Dozens of quasi non-governmental organization and taxpayer-funded organizations have ordered a purge of common words and phrases so as not to cause offense.

Among the everyday sayings that have been quietly dropped in a bid to stamp out racism and sexism are "whiter than white," "gentleman’s agreement," "black mark" and "right-hand man."

Many institutions have urged their workforce to be mindful of “gender bias” in language. The Learning and Skills Council wants staff to “perfect” their brief rather than “master” it, while the Newcastle University has singled out the phrase “master bedroom” as being problematic.

Things like this are why the EU is becoming (more of) a cesspit.

There will be a day in the not too distant future - when they're living in exactly the world Orwell predicted.

IIRC, California had something about using "master bedroom" on new plans.

Heck, in substitute teacher "training" class, we were  encourage to avoid "mom", "dad" and "parents" and use "guardian(s)" instead.

I didn't have guardians, I had parents, although sometimes I thought of them as jail keepers.  Do they also teach you to not Merry Christmas?

Isn't that silly, Flame, considering that a good majority of kids would not identify their parents as 'guardians'. Most know what parents are and still more then that know at least what mom or dad is, and rest can probably deduct on their own that when someone says 'parent' they mean the person that cares for you at home and that you live with.  :whatever:

Must drive you nuts, Flame when you hear that. Kinda like how I feel about the whole communal supplies thing at the new school this year. :whatever:

They are such huge cracker ass faggots over there in Jihadstates formerly known as Europe.  Every man there has lost their balls.  How sad is it that the area that gave up most of the incredible warriors, scholars, statesmen, and culture has turned into a big old ***** farm.

I think what happened is Europe tripped all over itself after Nazism to try and prevent it from happening again. They (falsely) saw any outward sign of aggression as 'bad'. They put stock in words, imo, that actually was because the real bigoted tendencies of Europeans never really went away--all they did was change the language a bit. Note the French attitudes towards bathing suit attire, but the French probably would be the first aboard to change the 'speak' of the country. Euros anymore are about pretending not to be bigots when they are some of the biggest. Ignoring what is actually simmering under the surface is only going to serve to put the whole area in another WWII like turmoil at some point when people are sick of apologizing for being German, French, British, Italian, etc. The pendulum will move the opposite direction again and again a whole group of people will probably be targeted for the failed policies of lawqmakers that didn't just let people duke it out on their own.

After having lived in Europe for 14+ years, within the Army but not having been cushioned by it, I heartily concur, jtyangel. Excellent observation, btw.

There is no question that Europeans in general and Germans in particular fell all over themselves to avoid any semblance of nationalism (well, except for De Gaulle, of course) and aggression.

It was far easier to depend on the U.S. when it came time to brandish weapons.

I think it has to do with us both having a unique perspective as both Americans, but with strong ties to Europe(yours having lived there and mine through family who shaped how I was raised).

And that is exactly what has happened. Some are even very forthright in saying they avoid all forms of nationalism to the point of almost hiding history. It pains me to think of what it will mean for this wonderfully historical area someday that I claim my roots in and where I was born. Very sad.

BTW, remember when all of the bra-burning skanks in this country were trying to get the term "History" changed because it sounded like "His Story"? Small movement, but a movement nonetheless.

See that is the thing that makes me laugh about the women's "lib" movement.  If they have the time and energy to complain about things that are that stupid, they obviously aren't as oppressed as they would like to think.
