Title: Obama: GOP conspiracy out to kill health reform

President Obama took to the conservative airwaves Thursday to charge that Republican leaders are engaged in a vast right-wing conspiracy to kill health care reform in order to repeat the 1994 mid-term takeover of Congress, which followed the defeat of President Clinton's reform plan.

"I think early on, a decision was made by the Republican leadership that said, 'Look, let's not give him a victory, maybe we can have a replay of 1993, '94, when Clinton came in, he failed on health care and then we won in the mid-term elections and we got the majority. And I think there are some folks who are taking a page out that playbook," the president said. ...
Yay! The VRWC returns. :-) (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/aug/20/obama-gop-conspiracy-out-kill-health-reform/)

It wasn't the Republicans killing the bill that resulted in them taking over congress.  It was the fact that DimRats proposed socializing healthcare in the first place.

He doesn't, but they are using secret Rove-like witchcraft powers to spread discord among the Dems.

"Kill" is such a harsh term.

I prefer the term "exercise my free choice to electively terminate during pre-viability gestational priod".

I thought he didn't need the GOP?

During my television-watching days of the early 1990s, until I headed off halfway around the world, a constant refrain of the news media was that the Republicans were going to kill Hillary Clinton's health care plans.

During the early 1990s, Republicans had about as many members in Congress as they do today; far less than what the Democrats had.

It always stymied me; how could a minority party destroy a bill supported by the majority party?

But the news media kept hammering on, that it was the Republicans who were killing it.

If memory serves me correctly, Hillary Clinton's health care plans sort of fizzled out, no great cataclysmic event causing its abortion, and the man chiefly responsible for that was a.....Democrat congressman.....from Alphonse Capote Gore's own state.

Hi,

Good, I hope he is right.  Perhaps that might even cause some of his members of congress to realize their butts might be in trouble next election cycle.  Last night Ann Coulter said the best thing for the republican party would be for them to use the nuclear option and force the health care through congress.  She said that would really cement a republican take over of the house and senate.

While she may be right, I much prefer his bill does not pass and we take over anyway.

Hmmm, most of the polls I've seen are showing some 75%-80% of Americans are against this health care bill. If there are THAT MANY Republicans, the WHY is 0bama the President?? Methinks that 0bama has a difficult time facing the reality that his health care bill is nothing more than a power grab and that most Americans can see through his hidden agenda.

Hi,

I disagree with you.  BO knows exactly what is in the bill.  On another thread a poster made a pretty good case for him being narcissic and basically he does not care, he is God in his eyes.  If BO is having a hard time it is realizing the public is on to his game and he is about to have one of the biggest demonstrations in Washington history, which will hopefully send democrats a stronger message than Pelosi and Reed.  I think, like Saddam Hussein, he totally underestimated the will of the American people.

Many democrats are caught between a rock and a hard place.  If they vote for the bill, their career is over.  If they vote against it, then they will not get any campaign money from Nancy and Harry and their career may still be over.  Rather than do what the folks that hired them want, their choice is which is the lesser of two evils, where do I have the best chance of staying in power.  That my friends is probably reality, and an indication of a sad state of affairs.  God do we need congressional term limits.

God do we need congressional term limits.

Problem is the very people we want to limit, have to vote to limit themselves! Anywhere the voters tried it, the court system knocks it out of the water claiming it's un-constitutional! We'd have to have an ammenment and that won't happen with these power hungry pricks!

Sure wish the congress back in 1781 would have thought of it! That was the last time we had un-corruptable congress critters.
