Title: 'God's partners in matters of life and death'

President Barack Obama needs some outside help pushing health care reform, and he's turning to rabbis to get it.

In a morning conference call with about 1000 rabbis from across the nation, Obama asked for aid: "I am going to need your help in accomplishing necessary reform," the President told the group, according to Rabbi Jack Moline, who tweeted his way through the phoner.

"We are God's partners in matters of life and death," Obama went on to say, according to Moline's real-time stream.

The 15-minute morning briefing was sponsored by the Religion Action Center of Reform Judaism, and included rabbis of all persuasions. Although the RAC hosts the call each year, participants had never before heard from a sitting president.

What stood out about the call is that Obama "is a master communicator," Moline, the rabbi of the Conservative Agudas Achim Congregation in Alexandria, said in an interview after the call ended.

Is it just me or does this smack of blasphemy or at the very least hubris?

Hubris, yes, and just something about the whole thing strikes me as wildly inappropriate.  "We?"  The President and religious leaders (Well, those who agree with him anyway) are our partners in life and death?  No frickin' thanks, Barry, I didn't pick you at all, let alone marry you.  Step back from the crack pipe and look at the second half of that old First Amendment for a sec.  And as for the rabbis or whatever, they not only don't KNOW any more facts about this subject than anyone else does, they also tend to ignore any actual facts that don't fit their belief systems, so I'll pass on taking any life-altering advice on healthcare or insurance from them, too.

A telling sign of the Democrats--don't need to believe in God, because the state IS God in the eyes of liberals.

God don't need your help, dipstick. The fact that you are allowed to walk around without a lighting bolt aimed at your ass it proof of God's tolerant love.

I think they really believe they are God's partners when it comes to life and death.  They certainly feel that way about the unborn, and about those that are "better off dead."   There is no reason to think they won't keep sliding those boundaries...just as they keep sliding all the others moral boundaries.

My reasoning for wondering if it was blasphemous, is that by definition, a partner is usually an equal.

At least Obama isn't calling God his "life partner".   :o I don't think that would go over well.

Not possible. Democrats do not believe in God, and hate those who do.

Lord Zero was raised to believe in Allah, and his prophet, that famous pedophile, whathisname.

Excellent point thundley. I don't know of any believer that would even attempt to equate man to God. Partners? Not even close.
