Title: I'd Like To Propose
Post by: TheSarge on August 18, 2009, 08:16:14 AM
As we are all aware of...the 8th anniv. of 9/11 is just right around the corner.
On Sept 11th I'm asking that we do the same for our own country.

But instead of using Old Glory as our avitar...we could use the from pages of the news papers from across the country (of from across the Pond for our friends from England) as our avitar...similiar to what I'm already doing.

http://www.september11news.com/

That link provides thumbnails of hundreds of newspaper front pages. Find the one form your hometown or since mine isn't there...find the one that sums up best how you felt that day.

Just a thought.

Damn...8 years later and I still get tears in my eyes thinking about it.

The sad fact seems to be that many Americans HAVE forgotten. Then, there are those that think it was a Government conspiracy.

Hey can you sticky this for me at least until after 9/11?

I haven't forgotten and as I've said before...it's probably the single most defining moment of my adult life.

I'd be willing to bet it is for a LOT of Americans...only the MSM doesn't want to hear from them or remind everyone why we are at war on two fronts today by showing the video.

I'm hoping they have coverage on Friday also, but I'll be working.

Unfortunately my hometown doesn't keep their archives that long. Maybe I can find the Spokesman Review's, which is the closest "big" town around us.

I was narrating the ceremony for the unveiling of the Flight 93 Memorial at the Capitol and the Congressional 9/11 remembrance right after.

It was hard not to remain composed and not get choked up.

Not sure how I'll be at the 9/11 Ceremony at the Pentagon tomorrow.

Wish I had it to do more than just pray and send thoughts heavenward (seems just a bit too much like "healing white light" if you ask me), but as the Lord has claimed vengeance as his personal, private pervue, I have no right to poach in the Lord's territory, no matter how much I want to.

I do have other things to do as well I just understand how one can get choked up and sometimes a little extra in the strength department does not hurt either.

My apologies for dredging up TheSarge's old post on this...but it was all I could find when I searched.

Bump.  It's that time of year again.  11 years since the day that changed everything...and everyone.

I'd ask again this year that you change your avitar to one of the newspaper headlines from that day.

Thanks.

Here is the link for the news paper front pages.

yes, thank you, TX.

...and thank you for your continued service. It's because of people like you who are willing to serve and sacrifice. , that we have not had another 9/11.

I figured as much.  As I stated in April, I lost a buddy of mine (in April) that was actually off-shift, and going home, from Engine 7 when the attacks hit.  He turned around and went back.   He always seemed to handle the stress of that day, and the carnage he saw, well.  Made his way to lieutenant in the FDNY, and died on April 16th while fighting a warehouse fire in Brooklyn.  Heart attack.  What a funny guy.  We were on a message board together (a Springsteen board), and a couple of the guys on that board used to give Rich shit about being the 'gay fireman,' and taking random pictures of kids on the Internet and passing off the pics as his own kids.  He took it all in stride.

When his name is added to the NYS Fireman's Memorial next Spring, I'll be there. :taps:

*Bump*

This year we also remember Ambassador Chris Stevens, former Air Force Staff Sgt. Sean Smith, former PO1 Navy SEAL Glen Doherty and SCPO (ret) former navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, killed in the 9/11 attack in Benghazi, Libya.

"Our nation, this generation, will lift the dark threat of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage. We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail." - President George W. Bush Address to a Joint Session of Congress and the American People, September 20, 2001.

Our little community is having a Remembrance at 9 am Wednesday.  I witnessed an awesome tribute yesterday going to Athens on 441.  Hundreds of bikers flying 9/11, US and Gadsden flags with police motorcycle escorts.  Drivers stopped their vehicles in respect, folks came out of their houses, lots thumbs up, salutes and a few tears.

That is awesome.

Has it been 11 years, seems like just yesterday, now I know how Mom felt when Pearl Harbor was bombed or when JFK was assassinated.

Some days in our lives when things happen we can remember clear as a bell years later, so clear it is
like it happened just hours ago.

Hey gang...it's that time again.  Once more for this month I'd request that you change your avitar to something remembering 9/11.  Or if you feel so inclined, to honor and remember those that dies on another 9/11 just two short years ago in Benghazi.

13 years...feels like 13 minutes ago.

Never forget.
