Acclaimed guitar player Les Paul died on Wednesday from complications of severe pneumonia at White Plains Hospital in New York. He was 94.
Born Lester William Polsfuss in Waukesha, Wisconsin on June 9, 1915, Paul was already performing publicly as a honky-tonk guitarist by the age of 13. He dropped out of high school at 17 to play in Sunny Joe Wolverton's Radio Band in St. Louis. His first recordings were done in 1936, and in 1938, he moved to New York to begin his tenure on national radio with Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians. ...

Almost makes me wish that TiT hadn't gotten his sorry ass tombstoned. It might be entertaining to read him spinning the yarn about how he played around with Les Paul one night when the pot smoke was thick and the cheap booze was flowing freely...

If not for this man alot of Rock and Rollers would have had to stick with old fashioned accustic guitars. Alot of people owe him a huge dept. Thanks to him we have alot of great music.RIP.

Used to watch him and Mary on Ed Sullivan and the Milton Burl show with my grandparents.
For some reason I was surprised to hear he was STILL alive,
Les and Link Ray are the only people from my childhood ---Jimmy Hendrik don't count that I really enjoyed, Oh yes, CHARO could play a mean guitar even with 6 inch finger nails.
