Girl Says Family Wants To Kill Her For Being Christian

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An Ohio girl ran away to Orlando because she said her family threatened to kill her for converting to Christianity. Rifqa Bary, 17, said she was threatened by her family because she converted from Islam to Christianity.

"What did your father say to you?" WFTV reporter Mary Nguyen asked.

"He said he would kill me!" replied Bary.

Bary was in Orange County's juvenile justice center because her parents want to regain custody of her. She had been staying with a local Christian pastor's family.

Bary said she came to the pastor's home for safety. But now a judge has ruled she will stay in the custody of the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

DCF says Bary will stay in foster care until investigators can figure out if her life is in danger.

It already happened to a girl in Texas. So sad. I hope she is safe.

She's 17, most parents would be thrilled to have the teen ager out of the house.  :-)  I hope the courts allow her to have her freedom.

At 17, can't she stay where she wants to?

Not necessarily.  She may need to be granted emancipation because she is not quite considered an adult yet.

As slow as the courts work, she should be 21  before they decide.

I have not thought about that poor child in years. Yet from what we are told the boy wanted to go back to CUBA----I wonder why?!!!! ::)

About the 17 year old girl converting to Christianity, this I can see as she now has the freedom to determin her own fate and life style.----Unless she becomes the 4 TH wife of a Mormon, or hooks up with a church that advocates that woman be subservient to their husbands-----then she will be back to square one.

Her family now wants to kill her, well golly geeze, we hear of fathers killing their daughters for much less then that, say for not wearing a head scarf in public.

Not to defend her parents, but it must be a hard thing for parents to watch their children ignore years of tradition and embrace something that is considered vile by the family.

We do not hear about this now a days but not so long ago parents were kidnapping their kids from Cults and having them DE PROGRAMED.

Crazy world out there.

There is a huge difference between becoming a Christian, and getting sucked into a cult.   ::)

There is also a huge difference between "deprogramming" a kid (which does work with cults, but has no effect on the presence of the Holy Spirit), and killing one that does something you don't like.   ::)

Vesta, your thought processes seem to be something less than sane at times.   :mental:

Yes  I guess I do get caught up in things that I just don't understand and the reality that these things are going on around me every day.

How I ask in all seriousness does a person caught up in a cult that is not  christian have the presence of the Holy Spirit ??

I was raised up to believe that only through Jesus could one go to Heaven.  Then when I asked about children that died too early to be baptised I was told they would go into Limbo forever.

It bothered me as a child as a family member lost a 2 day old child. My parents told me the baby was in heaven with Jesus yet the church told me no, only the baptised go to heaven.

Some churches don't baptise until the child is 13, so if they died by accident at age 6 would they stay in Limbo forever.

I tell you, trying to make sense of all these beliefs as a kid was not easy.

Today as an adult that has seen and studied religion, all kinds of faith, I still cannot get a grasp on just what the Holy spirit is, and why it would negate those who live in areas that have never heard of Jesus.

Does not the Holy Spirit come to all who live following the 10 Commandments.?

I have no idea where you got the idea that one would.  The point I made was that there is a great difference between converting to Christianity, which involves the indwelilng of the Holy Spirit, and getting sucked into a cult.  They are opposites.   ::)

The Holy Spirit comes into those who ask for forgiveness of sins and redemption by salvation.  Following the commandments is a fruit of the Holy Spirit...without the Spirit, all good works are worthless.

I have heard of the theory of "limbo," but know of absolutely no scriptural foundation for this idea.  The most basic scriptural teaching on small children and babies are the words of Christ...
Quote
Mat 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Mat 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

It would seem that children belong to Christ...and it is only as we reach the age of accountability and choose to reject Christ that we aim ourselves at the other destination.

I never figured out why republicans were against him going back to his father to begin with. As a conservative I think the father loved his son and wanted him back. I have absolutely no problem with that. Basically it was his father's choice not the F&**( government to decide what happened to this kid.

How 'bout because his mother DIED getting him out of that hellhole.  If I remember correctly, the boy's father couldn't have been less concerned about the boy or his mother, until they showed up in the international news headlines and he had a way to score political points with Fidel & Co.
