I'm worried that the GOP base will be out in force in '10 elections
Midterm elections generally are much smaller turnout and galvanizing the base to turn out is the key. From what I'm seeing with these lunatics on the right at town meetings they are galvanized and will turn out. If the president and congress don't deliver on health care and other key issues in a way that truly makes progress, I'm afraid the democratic base might not show up in sufficient numbers and the result might be solid GOP gains in the house and senate. I think Democratic leaders need to stop worrying about "cooperation" and concentrate more on getting it done right.
First up, the mountain man primitive who, like all men, nightly pitches his tent one day's march closer to the mausoleum:

1. Your's is a very reasonable fear, well based and well expressed
You hit the nail on the head, the problem won't be that so many Republicans show up to vote, its that so many Democrats won't.

2. The GOP base is only about 25% of the electorate.
Let them come out.
The demographics of the country are changing so dramatically in favor or Democrats that it won't matter.
They're a diminishing breed.
Oh, I dunno.

3. Sorry, but in a low turn out election 25% of the voters can be decisive.
I think it is folly to take things for granted. That 25% in a low turnout election could make up over 50% of the total turnout.

10. In WI, we have seen wingnut Supreme Court Justices elected on the basis of a 10% turnout.
Yeah. In lots of blue cities and blue states, there does tend to be actual 10%--or somesuch percentage similar with that--voter turnout, and so the Democrat bosses vote the cemeteries to make up for it.

4. What many are NOT taking into consideration is that the tactics being employed by the right are reminding us of exactly WHY places like this got started in the first place-the 2000 'election'. So with all the thuggish actions they take they KEEP us mobilized-it's going to backfire on them. I know everybody in THIS family will be voting to make sure Robert Wexler gets re-elected to HIS seat

5. We should hope that they are
We want to win actual elections where the most people possible vote, right?
What's the problem with everybody on the other side voting again?

7. No the problem is that they will vote and the left will not.

12. If this administration and Congress do not deliver REAL reform to health care AND
the wars are still rolling along and the economy is still bad,
many of us on the left will not give our votes or dollars to the politicians who failed to take advantage of the best opportunity in decades for real PROGRESS.
Why are they STILL keeping their god damned powder dry?

14. Well, that's the way democracy works
The left doesn't vote, the left loses.

6. Or course they will.
Whether President Obama is seen as a success or a failure, the base will be motivated to get out the vote. That's the peril in winning an election; the winner takes on responsibility for the state of things.

8. There's an answer...
We need to stay united as democrats and show up in even greater numbers. That's the point of elections - the person with the most votes wins.
George Bush had the most votes in Florida in 2000, by the way.

I've asked that about the primitives for the longest time. No answer yet.

NOOOOOO, ya think?
Don't worry DUmmies. Obama is beloved so much by all, that this will rub off on anyone with a D behind their names. On 11/3, just wake & bake, Bugs & drugs, hit the hay again. All will be well.

They're completely oblivious to the mood of the country. I feel like I'm in a time warp. This is just like the Carter years only with more blind arrogance.

And, Rasmussen does a weekly question on generic GOP vs. Dim. A new one will be published tomorrow, I'll report back. But, GOP has led the Dims for the last 6 weeks. But shhhhh that's just between you and me.

The biggest problem for Democrats, outside of conservative turnout in an off year, is that Barry made it clear that part of how he plans to pay for heathcare reform is by sucking money out of medicare/medicaid, to the tune of 25% - Thats going to get the retired angry, and the retired always vote.

Sucking WHAT! money out of Medicare/Medicaid? That particular program has been a gigantic open, sucking, chest wound in the Nation's treasury for years now, and is teetering on the edge of complete bankruptsy and collapse as a program within a couple of years.
I love how these assholes try to prove to the world that they haven't spent our country into bankruptsy by spending even MORE money the country doesn't have. :banghead:

Indeed - Sucking money out of a vacuum - I hope they have a portable black hole generator available, because that is the only way Medicare/Medicaid is giving back any money. Its going to take the force of several collapsed stars to succeed.
This is my position on Obamacare - which I know they will never, ever follow through on.
If Obamacare is going to succeed where Medicare has failed, why don't you use fix Medicare first ? Medicare has an existing structure in place, and if you can make the program lean and efficient, then I, and probably many others would be willing to listen to what you have to say. Otherwise, making a bigger, more expensive Medicare is doomed to fail. Any rational person can see that.

They have every right to be worried.
And it helps me sleep better at night knowing they are terrified about what's going to happen at the mid-Terms.

The whole "end-of-life counseling thing" will be the icing on the cake.
