House Democrats report major progress on healthcare bill
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-he...
A deal with the party's moderate 'Blue Dog' faction raises hopes for the overhaul's chances in September, but some liberal Democrats don't share that optimism.
Reporting from Washington — After weeks of factional debate that threatened to derail healthcare legislation, House Democrats reached a critical deal today that paved the way for the chamber to vote on a healthcare overhaul in September. Under an agreement worked out between moderate "Blue Dog" Democrats and House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry A. Waxman (D- Beverly Hills), Democratic leaders agreed to change the way a new government insurance plan would operate to allay concerns that it could crowd out commercial insurers. And they moved to protect more small businesses from a new requirement to provide their employees with health insurance.
(snip)
The proposed changes to the healthcare bill are to be discussed at a committee meeting this afternoon. And Hoyer said they would be debated on the full floor when lawmakers return from their summer recess in September. Yet there already were signs of trouble in the liberal wing of the House Democratic caucus. Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Petaluma) blasted the deal minutes after it was announced.
"This is not going to pass," she said. "It's a non-starter. It's going to cause havoc."

1. The changes for the Blue Dogs will increase the federal cost.
They got the exemption for small business to provide insurance raised from those with payrolls of $250,000 or less to those with payrolls of $500,000 or less.
Lots of those employees will need federal subsidies.

4. **** the insurance companies...they will live, it is the people who can not afford health care who are doing the dying.

3. This thing must be a real mess
"This is not going to pass," she said. "It's a non-starter. It's going to cause havoc."
If Pelosi truly had the votes, I have to imagine the liberal wing would have voted for it as it stood before these negotiations. If they are now balking, it must be pretty bad and Waxman should have followed through with his threat to take it to the floor bypassing the committee. I don't see what these negotiations have accomplished if they end up costing more votes than they might earn.
franksolich still thinks it's not going to happen.

Very hard to say at this point. To me it is looking like there will be some kind of 'Health insurance' bill that costs a lot and screws up a lot of existing accommodations that let the current system function, but it won't be what any of the players involved actually want.

There is still some hope that nothing will get done. So far, this plan is following the trail blazed by Hillarycare.
DUmmies favor it because they've never met an abortion they didn't like.

The numbers in Congress are a lot more on the Dems side this time, GOBUCKS, I think the only thing that can truly derail this is for a complete and total catfight to break out within the Democrat ranks between the Blue Dog Caucus on one side and the Progressive and Black Caucuses on the other. If that doesn't happen we will end up with "A bill" from the House at least, but God knows what kind of stupid shit they will have to put in it to get a majority to sign on.
There is some chance that no bill will make it out of the Senate; of course if one does, it probably will be considerably different from the House version, and whatever comes out of the Conference Committee to marry the two up could be completely unrecognizable compared to either the House or Senate originals.

That's my "worst case" scenario.
My "best case" scenario is that the whole thing is dropped.
My "worst case" scenario of course falls far far far far short of what the Democrats, liberals, and primitives want.

1. Stimulus is massive fail.
2. Obumbler and the State Press keep changing the story.
3. Obumbler and the socialist in congress yell trust us, CRISIS!
4. 84% of Americans are satisfied with their health care coverage.
5. America dos not want illegal aliens served for free.
6. Only an Obumbler voter would believe that the socialist plan for health care will not drive up prices, increase wait times, increase the budget deficit, while eliminating successful treatments.
7. Only an Obumbler voter would believe that the socialist plan for health care will not take treatment options away from older, less useful to government coiffures and bring 'end of life' sooner to all senior citizens.
8. The time window to get this snuck under the nose of the public has expired.
9. The new deficit numbers for obumbler and the socialists are going to be 25% higher than obumbler predicted.

1. Stimulus is massive fail.
No argument here--actually, an affirmation. HUGH (yes, lurking DUmb****s, I spelled that wrong deliberately) failure.
2. Obumbler and the State Press keep changing the story.
3. Obumbler and the socialist in congress yell trust us, CRISIS!
Yep. They want to **** over the 46% that didn't vote for them--and the ever-growing independants that are against them now.
4. 84% of Americans are satisfied with their health care coverage.
Not to really get picky, but I have heard that the percentage is 91%.
5. America dos not want illegal aliens served for free.
But, if you're a "Chicago Democrat," all you want is power. Serving the illegal aliens gives you that power.
My wife's sister and her husband voted for the Obamination. I've quietly held that against them since.
8. The time window to get this snuck under the nose of the public has expired.
Thank God for that!
9. The new deficit numbers for obumbler and the socialists are going to be 25% higher than obumbler predicted.
Yes, they will . . . so how much you wanna bet that the Obamination will try to hold them up again?
