The superiority of organic food, even something as absurd as "organic eggs", is a fundamental tenet of the DUmmy philosophy. It doesn't matter that no science of any kind can find the slightest advantage, or that the poisonous chemicals, pesticides, hormones, and nefarious genetic modifications DUmmies wail about cannot be found in any way deleterious, if even present. No, organic is better, it just is. They can feel it. So Dummies pay double for their produce, and farmers gladly toss their blemished fruits and vegetables into the "organic" category rather than plowing them under.
So it is no surprise that DUmmy cali ignites a firestorm by posting a factual article:

Organic food is no healthier, study finds
LONDON (Reuters) – Organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over ordinary food, according to a major study published Wednesday.
Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine said consumers were paying higher prices for organic food because of its perceived health benefits, creating a global organic market worth an estimated $48 billion in 2007.
A systematic review of 162 scientific papers published in the scientific literature over the last 50 years, however, found there was no significant difference.
"A small number of differences in nutrient content were found to exist between organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs, but these are unlikely to be of any public health relevance," said Alan Dangour, one of the report's authors.

Personally I stopped eating chemical corporate food product crapola, and I stopped eating meat, I lost 150 pounds, lost my diabetes, lost my high blood pressure and hypertension and reversed damage done to my heart. So I will take the organic food and remain a vegetarian, thank you.
Wow. I had no idea organic food could do all that!
Now the DUmmies start a brief pissing match over who is more politically correct in toeing the organic line:

27. absolutely. I prefer organic and about 60 to 70% of what I purchase is certified organic
having said that, local is even more important to me than organic.

47. I purchase from an organic farmer's stand.
His pesticide is his chickens which have free range among his fields. His fertilizer is the poop from those same chickens. I also purchase eggs and, yes, chicken from this farmer also. His v*****s have the same nutrients as the v*****s I can purchase from the store; however, his v*****s don't have herbicide and pesticide on them. His v*****s are not genetically modified. His chickens are treated humanely and are allowed to do what chickens are supposed to do: eat bugs and lay eggs.

These DUmmies always feel so superior when discussing their diets. And discuss them they do, ad nauseum. Why do I know so much about their eating habits? Warpy will hit you over the head with her food opinions. I think she turns out the lights, draws the curtains, and mows down pizza, beer, and cheetos.
-
Oh damn.
I just noticed. This is in "General Discussion," and not in the cooking and baking, or the health, forum, where it appropriately belongs.
I wish my fellow alum Skins would penalize primitives who light bonfires in "General Discussion" instead of the appropriate forum.
If Skins were to charge a primitive two bucks every time the primitive used "General Discussion" instead of the specific forum where that topic belongs, my fellow alum could afford to purchase the Washington Monument and make luxury high-rise condominiums in it.
But I guess what appalls me even more is that it was the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive who did this. Most primitives use "General Discussion" because it's hip, cool, trendy, with-it, to be seen there, as compared with the old dull nerdy special forums.
I had a higher estimation of the character of the bitter old Vermontese cali primitive; it's shocking that she's just as high-schoolish as all the other primitives.

Oh, I did most of that(I had less to lose and no diabetes) by eating healthy(including meats) and exercising. Likely the 'chemical corporate food product crapola' you stopped eating had a Frito Lay and Nabisco label affixed to it. My guess is vegetables and fruits, whether organic or not, weren't put much in that person's body before anyway. It was the switch of diet away from processed foods as a whle that lost weight. This kind of foolishness will have this idiot back up 100 lbs when they can no longer afford organic and think their diet is now totally gone to pot and start buying crap foods again. Mark the words. DUmmies are as all or nothing as they like to claim the right to be.

The Moonbats have already come up with a new reason as to why this study is true here in Massachusetts.
It goes like this..
'Even though people are growing food organically, it has no additional value because the seed stock has been corrupted by genetically modified genes, as well as overbreeding. The food contains more starch, at the expense of vitamins. The only true way to get the benefits of organic produce now is to find and use genuine heirloom seed stock, because that food has far more nutritional value than what we have now' followed by a kneejerk 'Bush's Fault !'
-
Well, I'm all for free range meat, it is a more humane way to raise the doomed critters than the alternative, and free range eggs do have a superior color and better cooking qualities than those forced with hormone feeds. There is also an important genetic diversity preservation issue in favor of the heritage seeds & breeds movement. However, I have no problem gobbling down anything that doesn't get me first, ultimately it's all just amino acids and minerals anyway.
-

I really hate that word; it's stupid, it's baby-talk.
A person's gotta have some standards. Those cutesy babytalk words are every bit as irritating as the joe-cool hipster phrases like "under the bus" and "been there done that".
Everyone has their sensitivities, I guess. A DUmmy can taste one part per billion pesticide on his arugula. I am irritated to the point of distraction by backward ballcaps, and flipflops or guitars inside a church.
-
Well, I'm all for free range meat
I don't think anyone is against it. I personally don't want it, because it costs more to produce, and is not as tender. Taste suffers because the brute can't develop the same amount of fat marbling. But anyone who wants it should be able to buy it if he wants to pay the price and someone wants to raise it.
I guarantee, though, that "free range" on the packaging does not mean what DUmmies think it does. DUmmies would like it to be the law that all animals be allowed to roam freely across the countryside, speaking to one another in English, and talking about environmental problems, just like in the movies. Then, I guess it would be okay to slaughter them.

I've always had a question about organic produce. I would assume that it is grown without using chemical fertilizer; however, even the best soil sometimes needs some help. The main alternative to chemical fertilizer that I know about is manure (usually from cattle or chickens).
Collecting enough free range cow manure would be aggravating but not impossible. Collecting free range chicken turds, on the other hand, would seem to be quite a hassle. The easiest place to get the manure would be chicken houses. Especially egg farms. From what I understand many egg farms use chemicals to increase the laying productivity. If this manure was used wouldn't it contain at least some of the chemicals?
If so, shouldn't the "organic" produce no longer be considered organic?

No problem what-so-ever. Just turn the kids loose bare footed.....they'll bring it all in the house between their toes.....I know....I was raised on a farm.

COMPLETE garbage. Fact is "organic" food grown on older ORGANIC farms has LESS NUTRITION than the ordinary commercial farm. This has been shown to be true over and over since WW2.
-
This week's episode of Penn and Teller's BS is dealing with organic food this week. Co-incidence?

Alex Jones has been hawking some sort of non-GMO seeds to protect from the Global Elite(TM) or something.

I think a DUmmy-run free range commercial egg farm would be a blast. A decent egg farm has 25,000-30,000 hens, with maybe 80-90% laying an egg every day. So you'd have these swarms of chickens wandering over hill and dale, and every day the DUmmies would have to search for at least 20,000 eggs. It would be like Easter every day.
-

Well, since it grows here, the packaging is pretty optional and doesn't have a price on it. We normally pull one into a segregated area and feed corn for a couple of months before we butcher it, to take care of the taste and marbling issues, though.
Trying to produce free range eggs on a commercial scale would be a pretty amusing sight (As long as you didn't have to be involved in it personally), you'd probably have to sell the damn' things for a buck apiece to break even.

I agree about the eggs.
When I used to have my own garden, before I lived in the desert, very few chemicals were used. Since the garden was for my own use, rather then "production & profit" I had no need for chemicals, etc... I love fresh stuff from the garden, and would prefer that it was not covered in pestisides, etc.
When I was young, my father & I would scoop, load & haul manure to add to the already black midwest soil....the crops loved it. We just happened to live in an area with some of the best soil in the state of Illinois, it was a Blessing.
I'm no city kid. :evillaugh:

That is the problem with free range eggs, how do you know that the egg you just found was not from a couple days ago? It could turn into a food safety issue. But I do like the fresh farm eggs, most claim to be "free range" but not sure if they really are or not, LOL.
When I'm shopping at a retail outlet, I never buy organic. I'm pretty sure non-organic fresh produce is still alot better for you then what most DUmmies consume in a day.

Did anyone catch Penn and Teller last night? It was a really good show about the organic food industry and how there isn't really any scientific evidence that organic food has any more nutrients than regular food. Furthermore, they had some expert state that if every farm went certified organic the world could only sustain 4 billion people.
They also had someone set up at a farmer's market doing a taste test on organic food versus regular food. Then they cut a banana in half and told people one half was organic and the other half wasn't and people thought the half that was organic tasted better even though it was the same banana.
Next week they look at the tax system of the US but I won't be around to watch it.

A couple of years ago, they had a episode on bottled water, another great scam of our day. They made up some very fancy labels for a bunch of fictitious bottled water brands, filled them from a garden hose behind a trendy restaurant, then had "water snobs" at the restaurant do taste testing. It was hilarious. People claimed to taste the pure sweet glacial origin of one brand, and, like DUmmies discussing Budweiser, they would then taste tap water and make an ugly face at how gross it was. All the water on the show came from the same garden hose. DUmmies will never change, until they get socialized medicine and die of neglect.

Yeah, it was kind of funny, the people they showed not picking the organic choice or the people with the banana, they were still committed to the whole organic food movement. They did a whole analogy to religious belief and organic food orthodoxy.
