I am officially a student majoring in Multi Media
with the very real possibility of a double major in Women's Studies somewhere down the line.

2. What is that?
Congratulations, regardless that I have no idea what that major is.
Best of Luck!!
(I could have phrased that last statement a bit differently!)
DUmmy madinmaryland just asked the same question that will come from prospective employers.

7. back in the 70s
Way back when, it was a new field of study. I concentrated on public policy and organizational development. I envy you - I'd love to go back someday and get a Women's Studies graduate degree. I'll probably need to retire to find the time.

Useless degrees have long been a tradition among DUmmies.

15. Double majors rock! I too am majoring dual... multimedia and marketing...
Wanna work as a team?

Best of luck with your classes! Some will come easier than others and if the teachers are good they'll let you know where improvement is needed.

What college are you attending?

More of this "double major" bullshit. I strongly suspect the colleges these DUmmies are attending at one time published their enrollment forms on matchbook covers and the back page of comic books.

Of course, reputable colleges offer degree programs that are useless for the purpose of gainful employment, and "double majors" are nearly always a combination of two useless courses of study. DUmmies are notorious for lacking math skills, and likely believe that two times zero equals something greater than zero.

Why would anyone want to major in Women's Studies?  Unless it is like lonely men looking for dates?  Or lonely lesbians looking for love?

I mean, other than teaching Women's Studies, what can one do with that degree in the real world?

Ma double majored back in the day. I don't think the primitives would have applauded her choice though. It was criminology and psychology. Come to think of it after over 20 years on the force in Alexandria, VA I am sure she has arrested a few primitives. :-)

With the cost of education today where are all these kids getting the money to major and minor in square dancing and basket weaving.?

Bragging points for wealthy parents may come in here, " We have 3 kids in college"  All ways goes over well at the country club.

What is the difference in the cost to send a child to a 4 year college live on campus for just one year to study French Literature vs, the cost for one year live at home and work for a trade in becoming an electrician or Registered Nurse.?  As a parent financing the kids education looking at 3 more years of spending out the wazoo, I would hope the kids were going for an education to fall back on when times get hard.

After 4 years studying a trade the children are almost guaranteed to become employed before graduation.  Those that get a degree in Arts and Crafts may have a problem gaining employment for 15 years.

An old room mate of mine went to an all girls college in Va. lived on campus and holds a BA. in Recreation.  WTF---After 2 years of working in burger shops she went for a year, live at home school to become LPN.  She worked all day and took night classes to become an RN.--took her 6 years but she did it.

April, you said years ago your mother jumped into education that gave her a 20 some odd year carear.

Today I can not tell you how criminal justice courses at are pushed at 2 year colleges.  Problem is with an Associates degree in that field about the only way to go is to become a prison guard or in some form of social work, and the competition is fierce in that field.

What is the trades that pay big bucks, not beauty schools, I work with 2 woman that keep their license up to date just to be able to buy beauty products for a big cut rate. neither has worked in that field in 20 some odd years.

The only salon I know of that pays big bucks in my area specialises in men and woman over 50 years old.   Very pricey, but amazing what they can do for a woman in her late 60's.

Specialise.get the best and keep the education an ongoing part of their job.

Now that I have wandered all around the barn and back again, one must see to it that their children have an education they can carry on their back and survive with.

I'm not sure what you mean by "big bucks," madam, but cosmetologists in both urban and rural Nebraska seem to do okay.

Not United Auto Workers wages, but reasonably middle-class for an occupation that requires (in Nebraska) only 18 months of training.

And there appear to be no unemployed cosmetologists around here, other than ones in their ninth decade of life, or ones that just got tired or bored of it, and sold their practices for a good lot of money.

Perhaps cosmetology is an occupation the heifer Ava and the militant Wal-Mart primitive should consider.

Little Ava's refrain:

"...but...but...but I graduated magnum-come-lately in "Useless Shiite". You have to give me a job. It's the law."

Don't even joke like that.  In the Onation, it could happen.

I don't recall mentioning that she only had 2 associates. She graduated with honors from the University of Maryland with 2 bachelors. Also my grandparents did not pay a dime for her education. She went to school on the GI bill. It is the same way that I am paying for mine.

My best friend in the often maligned state of Florida :-) is a colorist. Well she can do anything, but that is her speciality. She is the primary breadwinner and I know pulls about 50K a year. But, she is also very talented and has had people 'follow' her when she moved from Miami to Orlando. She's also industrious and rather then working for someone else she 'rents' a chair and makes her own hours and demands her own salary. She does very well for herself and she got her trade when she was still in high school and had her license by the time she was 18. 21 years now she's been doing this. So, yes, people can make a very good living at it. Some skill and talent and the ability to build business and you can do very well.

I just hope Business Management actually teaches me something besides "non-descriminatory" language, like using the term "spanish surnamed-American". And no, I'm not kidding about that part.

Did it already. It's heavy behavioral, conflict management, leadership, and ethics. It actually wasn't too bad. A nice break from number crunching and analysis type of work.

One wonders if these "professional" students had to pay for their education themselves if they would take up such things as "Womens Studies"? What the hell is that, anyway? What is the job description for such tripe?
