Hey hey.

Now wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.

I thought primitives were always in favor of higher taxes.

The county assessed our home value higher than I thought it would

They have the value as $65k higher than our "Zestimate" at Zillow. I don't trust the county all that much so I'm wondering who is more accurate. But then I also wonder about Zillow. If they're using homes to the south of us as comparables, they will be off. It's a totally different kind of neighborhood but hard to tell from aerial photos.

I live in Riverside County in California. They can't raise our property tax, or I would figure that was the county's motive for assessing our house as high as possible. Could they be accurate? If so, it would make me very, very happy. Does anyone know much about how a typical county assesses property value?

No primitive's answered the patchy onion primitive's question, asked more than two weeks ago, so perhaps someone here can advise the patchy onion primitive.

That's hilarious Frank.

They don't want to pay more in taxes but certainly seem to have no issue with making as much off the market (FREE market) as they can.

How much money does the county need now
-------------------------------------------  X Old valuation = New valuation
How much money did the county need before

Duh.  The 'Reasons' are just window-dressing.

Here in Red State Hell I can never understand how our property taxes are so low,
along with zero state and city income tax.
But somehow we get by.

Almost right.  They're in favor of everyone else paying higher taxes.

The OP is a complete idiot.  Prop 13 mandates the your assessed value can only rise 1.1% per year unless it is sold. Unless he has purchased the property in mid year or added on to his house the assessed value can only go up 1.1%.  In fact there are no assessments coming out at up to a 20% reduction.
