Do you actually know anyone who qualified for the cash for clunkers program?
I see and hear a lot of grousing about how someone is *this* close, but can't qualify. Or how they qualify but no dealer selling what they want to buy wants to participate.
We tried but they changed the rating on our *11* year old clunker just last year. We now find it misses the criteria by **1** mpg.
Do you know anyone who qualifies? Or even more rare, do you know anyone who actually got a new car after making use of this program?

I think his unrec was undeserved. Stinky raises a perfectly legitimate question. I have a friend who owns a car repair shop, and he was nervous about this program. It turns out he needn't have been; nobody is qualifying under all the stupid myriad rules for this retarded government program. Everybody is keeping the cars they have, and bringing them to him for sprucing up, etc.

The program criteria are quite narrow, and with gas below $2.50 a gallon, I don't see a lot of people who might qualify being interested. After all, if you have a vehicle as old as required, and that gets mileage as low as required, and you are actually relying on it for your daily transportation to work, how likely is it that you would be dying to buy into a $26,000 loan with 3 or 4 thousand bucks knocked off the back end of it?
It is great watching that 'smash-mouth street-fightin' man' go apeshit over the unrecs, though. I wish I had an active mole over there so I could screw with him myself! :evillaugh:

22. I've always driven fuel efficient cars
and so I get nothing. I do know one set of nice folks who seem to be on the verge of getting the credit. I also know several who are getting it who drove big SUVs and mocked those of us who wanted mileage with words like 'we like to be safe' or 'we need big engines because I'm not going to have MY wife out there in some shit can like you drive.' Love those folks, love that I'm helping buy them new cars.

Think about it - Cadillacs and SUV owners are the prime candidates.
Once again, Goldman-Sachs gets the dollars, and we get the change.
But those are the ones that most likely won't be trading inf or a little car. The DUmmies miss an important point about this whole program. Global warming is a myth, so that isn't a valid reason for giving away our money to buy a new car. However, if you consider the "cash for clunkers" to be another hand out to the UAW, then it makes more sense.

Actually, I thought of trying the program, but when I realized that I would have a truck payment again after 5 years of no truck payment, I decided against it. I have 315,000 miles on my truck and still get 18 mpg on the highway. so, my money stays in the bank.....For the record, I have a '97 F150 with the 4.6l V8.

But what one needs to know is her car is a 94 Subaru Legacy wagon with over a quarter million miles on it. But thats the way we operate - we use something until there is nothing usable left. If she does trade it, Ill miss making fun of her Lesbaru. (its forest green - all it needs is a rainbow strip or a pink triangle, and it'll be perfect) :lmao:
But honestly, one needs a BAD car to qualify - Which is surprising as The Obama was supposed to bring us ponies of all sorts, as well as peace, harmony, and prosperity. I wonder why that is ?
