Board Posts
The DUmpster 88694
The Lounge 67657
Rather telling isn't it?
To each their own, but I for one don't check in here as often as I used to.
Why?
Incessant re-posts from DU.
If I wanted to read what was posted over there, I'd go there myself.
I still enjoy this board and I will continue to post here. But do we really need that many links to another board?
It's not like we don't know the kind of crap they post over there.
(joyfully awaiting the ass chewing I am likely to get for posting the above).
-
Why not just ignore the DUmp sub-forum? I basically do.
-
The nice thing about a board like this...if you have no interest in a forum or thread, you don't have to click on it. End of problem.

Is there something I need to click to have them not show up when I hit "Show unread posts since last visit.
"?
I'd do that in a heartbeat.

Just don't use that feature, it's not that helpful unless you feel obligated to read every post on a forum. I don't.
-
"Incessant re-posts" on a sub-forum that's entirely about what the DUers post? Do you just not understand that the purpose of the DUmpster is to mock posts at DU?
:wtf3:
Like the good MrsSmith said, just don't read it if it doesn't light your fire. There are quite a few areas here I never visit at all, but the DUmpster is one of the higher-frequency ones, the Lounge some but not so much.
-
Where is my un-reccomend button? :evillaugh:
-
As a moderator here, and hence a (minor) figure of authority, I take the 5th.
-
I love the feature ! Much rather read DU threads here with normal people :naughty: I tried to read the DU board, just too painful not having an interpreter along with me :p

I hit the DUmp when this board gets slow and I get bored. I can only take that place in small doses.
-
LOL...
Hey, did I do ok with increasing the posts in the Lounge?

Of course I do.
Haven't you all ever heard of stirring the pot?

Well, yes, and I happen to be a big advocate of increasing traffic to the Lounge.
For the longest time, the DUmpster and the Lounge were running neck-and-neck in traffic, but lately while traffic to the DUmpster has speeded up, traffic to the Lounge has slown down.
Now it's to where the DUmpster is miles ahead of the Lounge.
I believe in having a well-balanced web-site; while the Lounge is not my responsibility (although I'd be okay with it if it was), as a moderator, while of course my own primary interest is in the DUmpster, one has the moral obligation to help expand all forums, not just his own.
Incidentally, it appears to have evolved that the "purpose" of the DUmpster is to bring traffic here, and the "purpose" of the Lounge is, once that traffic comes to this web-site, keeping as much of it as possible coming back.
I definitely and enthusiastically encourage members to visit the Lounge.
-
I like it. Also, I like to post from outside of DU.
-
Maybe it's coincidental, but lounge traffic seemed to drop off when WE slowed down on his posting. Where is WE?

Yeah. Only 40,000 posts to go. Get crackin.

I think this board would grow substantially if articles are posted and discussed/debated, as oppposed to the high volume of primitive watching. They are all pretty much mentally unstable, I think everyone knows that.
FR just did a major purge of "RINOs" which was major league silly as discussing ideas, forcing posters to support their positions, intellectually honest debating, that is how you reach people. That and it is a fantastic exercise of the mind.
I used to belong to Right Nation, which at one time was a decent board (I was banned for joining another board and actually telling people about it by the site's email -- the nark who complained to the owner has karma following her around.... she knows who she is as she spends her time on other boards copying and pasting comments like the good little bitch she is). Lots of political backgrounds of the posters, and very lively debate (note -- it used to be that way, not so much anymore - I do miss the sports forum there though). I think that is the make-up of a great political board.

RN is still around?

RN is still around?
Like the way it used to be? nah, long gone.
-
I think we have a pretty well rounded group here. I would not be opposed to more Lounge traffic though. Lots of folks are busy in real life these days with things like kids beng out of school, work, vacations, etc...
The great thing about our board is that we have so many different forums and places to post various interests. Keep it coming!

Okay everybody, you heard from the closest thing we have here, to Clare Boothe Luce.
We got lots of different people here, and it's good to see the interaction.
Indeed, keep it coming.

Thanks for the tip Chris. But I really was just trying to help Frank boost the post numbers in the lounge.

And it is working. Thank you, sir.

RN is a shell of its former self. It is like having Lori Drew running a forum. NU is just as bad as well.

Now that brings up an interesting point. If there are 10,000 items of traffic on each of two forums, but on one of them it is from many OPs, and on the other it is largely from 2 or 3 stream-of-consciousness posters who treat the forum as their own personal Twitter, is the second really all that successful? That sort of Twitter-like posting just doesn't really appeal to me, though a lot of people seem to either do it or like living vicariously through it.
-
WE's Friday night threads always had the potential to go at least 250+ posts on some nights. I bet his absence definitely made a dent in The Lounge. Those were the threads that I enjoyed the most sometimes.

That's an eminently valid objection; it's very true.
But that requires more sophisticated "market development" than what I'm able to do at the moment.
(1) get numbers up.
(2) improve the quality.
I'm still on (1), but am confident all good things come in time.

I think it comes down to the number of replies generated by the posts rather than the number of threads started.

Only if you ignore the amount of self-kicking in those threads, which was huge.
