Title: primitives need to get organized
Post by: franksolich on July 21, 2009, 10:10:00 AM
You know, the primitives are always talking about "organizing"--organizing a boycott, organizing a protest, organizing the masses, organizing the media, &c., &c., &c.

Organize, organize, organize, the primitives demand.

How about if the primitives were to first organize Skins's island?

My fellow alum Skins has kindly provided all sorts of forums for the specialized interests of the primitives, forums for everything from rural folk to morose gays to the mentally-ill to eBay sellers to literary interests to fatness to sports.

All these nice little forums.

But the primitives persisting in lighting bonfires in only "General Discussion."

I just checked the 45 most-recent bonfies in "General Discussion" on Skins's island, finding that 32 of them have a forum appropriate for their subject matter.

If that's the way it's going to be, I dunno why my fellow alum just doesn't do away with all the specialized forums, and have Skins's island be one great big "General Discussion."

Of course, we know how the primitives are; they want to hang around in a place where it's cool, hip, trendy, with it, to be seen, and to hang around with the cool primitives, which is "General Discussion."

Okay, one can't deal with the childishness of primitives, when it comes to organizing themselves, but there are remedial actions that the leadership of Skins's island can make, so as to put Skins's island in a more organized structure.

Such as moderators there moving threads from "General Discussion" to the more-appropriate forum.

I've noticed, for example, the past few weeks there's been three bonfires about the deaf and hard of hearing in "General Discussion," when the specific forum for the deaf and hard of hearing is clogged with killer cobwebs, no traffic at all, nothing there since May 5, which is now a very long time ago.

Ditto for the automotive forum, which begs for traffic, but gets virtually none, the primitives lighting bonfires about automobiles in "General Discussion" instead.

And issues of mental health--now, there's something that needs Roto-Rootered out of "General Discussion" and sent packing to the mental health forum.

As long as the primitives themselves aren't organized, I dunno why they demand that the real world, the world beyond the waters surrounding Skins's island, "organize."

It's all very silly.

One thing at FR that is greatly discouraged for those unfamiliar with the site are "vanities".
Self authored opinion pieces not actually news articles.
The feeling being that few are qualified to write a good piece and it would result in a lot of wasted junk threads.

As expected the opposite is the case on the island since they are 100% different then normal folks.

That's why freerepublic has the "Chat" forum, which is where "vanities" belong.

franksolich is oftentimes found in the "Chat" forum there.

If I were my fellow alum Skins, I would make members "forum specific" too, where some members could post only in certain forums, and not allowed into other forums.

Like the subway cat being limited to just posting in the "Mental Health" forum, or the bitch from Baltimore being limited to just posting in the sports forums (there's more than one), or Pedro Picasso being limited to just posting in the 9-11, the conspiracy, forum.

It would neaten up things there quite a bit.

Welcome to the job of a site administrator (its the moderators jobs to assist with that kind of work, but I have no idea what DUmmy mods actually do).  There are plenty of topics here that are posted in Politics that could be in General Discussion, and there are many specific Political topics that should be moved out of General Discussion.  Trying to decide what goes where can be mind-numbing.  I posted a thread about a little old lady and her 1964 Mercury Comet in the Automotive forum.  I could have put it in the Lounge and gotten more people to look at it but I thought a unique, classic automobile deserved to be in that forum.

They'll find it, Chris, sir.

Bump, because primitives are reading this ancient thread now, perhaps hoping to get ideas for their Siege of Wall Street.

:jerkit:

Hope that helps!

So that's how you got the name of that forum! (Again, )

No argument there.

My observation about this is, it seems to me that GD is the most popular forum at DUmmyland so they post everything there. Anything from the issues of the day to asking their fellow goons should they order bacon or sausage when they order breakfast at Denny's (assuming they aren't boycotting Denny's this week).

I've noticed a bit of a turf war over on the island, between the primitives that choose the inhabit The Lounge, and those that generally can be found in the GD forum.

It's sort of like the Bloods and Crips, except with primitives.  I can only imagine the reason they chose to keep separate.  I've heard the GD primitives are the kind of primitives that you typically see scratching their ass, while primitives in The Lounge, not satisfied with just scratching, also choose to sniff their hand afterwards.

Good one, sir.

Awesome.

And oh-so-accurate.

They scratch each other's ass and then lick off their fingers.

Where's the chat forum at FR?

I despise DU's board set-up but I have to say I despise FR's also, except for the Ping List, but since they have so much news coming in I guess that's the only way they can handle it.

FR is Beth's cousin. Worst Format On All The Internets. Worse even than the DUmp.

A reflection, I suppose, of the proprietor's state of mind.

I agree, though I gotten used to the setup. The problem for me is it's the best place for news I've found. I mean everything from every corner of the country. I'm a member of Lucianne.com too and it's not as anal as FR but it's harder to navigate (except their "must reads" on the first page). And there are a lot of people at FR I've grown very fond of. Drudge is good for breaking news, Big (insert your favorite Breitbart site here) is good for stories you don't find anywhere else and to read about his latest tweaking of the left. But the range & depth at FR, just because there's so many people from all over the country (even the world) I can't find anywhere else.

Well you know, DUmmies are almost totally ignored in real life except for the occasional snickering around the water cooler from co-workers (over those few who work), an occasional snickering at the family reunion (over those few who haven't disowned or been disowned), or an occasional nod and strategically placed "Yes, Dear" from their spouses who continue to read the newspaper (for those who have decided what their sex and/or gender orientation is). They're not going to put something in a small forum where maybe a half-dozen people will see it when they can slip it in GD and get the massive affirmation they so desperately crave. Same goes for Bouncies. It's that frantic search for relevance that drives them.
