US May Lift Entry Ban on HIV Patients
For more than two decades, anybody who is HIV positive has been prevented from entering the United States. But with President Barack Obama’s support, the ban will likely expire soon, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) taking public comments until August 17. The department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will then make the final decision.
“We’re trying to end the stigma and the discriminatory practice for a disease that doesn’t warrant exclusion for coming into this country,†said the director of the CDC’s division of global migration and quarantine, Dr. Martin Cetron. “We have to appreciate this is not a threat we face from abroad.†He acknowledged that “HIV is clearly a public health disease of significance,†but added that simply letting somebody with HIV into the country does not “immediately pose a risk to the public.â€
The proposal could allow an average of about 5,000 HIV-infected people into the United States each year. And according to a CDC estimate published in the federal register, the lifetime medical costs of those admitted in just the first year would total almost $100 million. The United States is one of about 15 countries that prevent entry of HIV-positive patients, though it is possible to obtain a waiver under certain conditions.
Critics of the proposed regulation change are mainly worried about the cost or that infected immigrants and travelers could spread the disease. “It becomes a matter of collective responsibility,†explained Ira Mehlman, a spokesperson for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a nonprofit organization which usually advocates stricter immigration law. “The American people shouldn’t be in a position where they have to pay for it.â€

To most DUmmies, it may seem to have been a no-brainer to bring in more AIDS-infected queers to replace the democrat votes of the ones who have already died. But the jug-eared Kenyan and his braintrust faced a dilemma. Of course, these new queers would be reliable voters until the virus takes them down. On the other hand, they will inevitably infect a lot of homegrown queers who would otherwise live longer, to vote for democrats in more elections. Apparently, his advisors convinced the Kenyan that with all the exotic drugs we will provide these people free of charge, they will live long enough to provide a net increase in democrat votes.

2. It does seem like we'll end up paying for their healthcare
and it makes me nervous, letting in people with a fatal disease that cannot be cured. This isn't chickenpox.
No I don't think HIV+ patients are immoral or should be punished or anything barbaric like that. I just don't think we really need to add to our current HIV+ population. Our goal should be to eradicate the disease within our borders, not increase it (no I'm not talking death camps, as I'm sure I will be accused of, but through education and prevention).
5000 more people per year means 5000 more people who could potentially spread the disease within our borders.

Lets be accurate, people with HIV/AIDS are welcome to come to the United States, they are not allowed to become permanent residents. BTW, many infectious disease are a bar. TB, Syphilis, Leprosy, and Gonorrhea will prevent you from getting a green card as well.

Yes we do, even to illegal immigrants. BTW, cancer is not a comimunicable disease like the Rump Ranger Danger called AIDs is.

[unlike more communicable/vector-bornes diseases such as typhoid, TB, etc.]
Did Obama just back-handedly admit AIDS is a behaviorally spread disease?

So the end result will be that pre-mature babies, kids with birth defects, cancer patients, and basically anyone over 50 will be royally F'd under Zero's health care plan, but rump-ranging poofster butt-monkeys will be getting health care right up to their last breath....

According to Avert.org, there are approximately (very approximately) 23,240,000 people with HIV or AIDS in Africa. The number of people with AIDS in the US is somewhere between 500,000 and 1.1 million, and apparently those number are based on some sort of math, and the assumption that 1 out of 5 people with HIV is undiagnosed. So the picture is probably somewhat exaggerated, but the vast majority of cases really are in Africa.

I was talking to a good friend just a few weeks ago who had just returned from South Africa where he was born and raised. He told me the Minister of Health refuses to acknowledge that the country has an AIDS problem, that their official solution to people is to wash yourself after sex and that will prevent it.
And that's from SA, probably one of the better countries as far as providing information to their people. I highly doubt the other countries say much about it at all.

Considering that there is a widespread belief in some sub-Saharan countries that you can cure AIDS buy having sex with a virgin (which leads to the rape of infants and young girls) I'd say that lack of education is a definite issue.

South Africa stops funding for AIDS vaccine research
(Cape Town, South Africa) South Africa has stopped funding research on an AIDS vaccine, a leading scientist said Monday, even as a major vaccine trial on humans began in the country ravaged by the world’s worst AIDS epidemic.
Anna-Lise Williamson, an AIDS researcher at the University of Cape Town, told The Associated Press that the clinical vaccine trial that began Monday would continue with U.S. money. But she said South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology had stopped funding her research this year and the utility Eskom’s contract for funding ended last year and was not renewed.
Even though South Africa’s science minister appeared at a ceremony launching the vaccine trial with Williamson and lauded her research, neither he nor Eskom immediately returned calls seeking comment about funding.
At the ceremony, one of 36 healthy volunteers was injected Monday before officials and journalists in Cape Town’s Crossroads shantytown. The event was also attended by American health officials who gave technical help and manufactured the vaccine at the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Wow, that's tragic. Until now, most of the world's cutting edge medical research has come from Africa.
