Title: Michelle Obama thesis was on racial divide

Quote
"I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

And I lay the blame for this attitude and feeling right at the feet of Black people themselves. Ethnocentric education has increased Balkanization of the races here in America. Also, calling computers and books "Tools of Oppression" fosters this attitude of defeatism. Hip-Hop ain't helping to bridge the divide either.

Instead of just looking at the differences which is too easy anyway, Blacks need to start emphasizing the similarities with other races and not just whites either. Otherwise they will always be on the periphery of society.

"In defining the concept of identification or the ability to identify with the black community," the Princeton student wrote, "I based my definition on the premise that there is a distinctive black culture very different from white culture."

and then

Quote
Perhaps one of the most germane subjects approached in the thesis is a section in which she conveyed views about political relations between black and white communities. She quotes the work of sociologists James Conyers and Walter Wallace, who discussed "integration of black official(s) into various aspects of politics" and notes "problems which face these black officials who must persuade the white community that they are above issues of race and that they are representing all people and not just black people," as opposed to creating "two separate social structures."

Contradict much Michelle? Or does she really think that she can have it both ways? Two distinct cultures but when it comes to politics, blacks can overlook that?
John Edwards would be proud! There really are Two Americas!!!

Sounds like she has an inferiority complex about being black. Condi vs yo mamma are worlds apart. Being a victim is old hat. Of course when you are a democrap, your glass is half empty rather than half full. Not surprising of her mentality between the races.

Obama--rises to prominence based on her skin color then bashes anyone not like her.

Rice--rises to prominence despite her skin color and makes the most of her situation.

Something tells me Dr. Rice is what MLK had in mind when he said something about "content of our character rather than the color of our skin".

In all fairness, it may have been written that way because that's what the faculty wanted to hear, especially at a zoo like Princeton (world-class hard science mixed with world-class liberal moonbats running everything else).  God knows I sure wrote shit I never stood behind in college because what was wanted was clearly communicated and I didn't want to bomb the class; I particularly remember my final exam in International Law, at the time the Law of the Sea treaty was the hot topic.  Though I generally agree about the prposition that a huge part of the problem minority intelligentsia has in the US is of its own devise, i.e. their own unwillingness to put their work in the larger context and step outside the objectively-meaningless point of it being done by a minority member.

The money word is highlighted there....it's how she FEELS.  That doesn't mean that's the way it was, it's justhow she interpreted it.  She is the only one in control of how she feels.  If she wants to FEEL a part of the community at large (whites, etc), she needs to change her way of thinking/reacting with gut reaction "I'm black , thats how they see me, blah blah blah".

The problem is within herself.

^IIRC, she did get a full ride to Princeton - possibly on Affirmative Action as well.

After reading her dreck, why do I get the feeling my SAT scores would have beaten the shit out of hers?  And I don't recall anyone banging down my door offering me a full boat scholarship.

Just wondering.

You aren't a professional victim or oppressed class. :-)

I've always thought it would be fascinating to study the psychological impact of Affirmative Action. To the casual observer like me, it would seem rather insulting to know you are only a member of the inner circle because of some quota. I mean really, isn't that perpetuating the so-called White Guilt? Personally, I think AA was the worst thing that could have ever happened. It was another ham-fisted attempt to correct a problem society would have eventually righted on it's own. Sometimes if you tip a ship too far, it capsizes.

Yeah, much easier to get a good grade if you say what the prof wants to hear. I was an English major...bullshit abounds in the Liberal Arts and it IS kind of fun to see how high you can pile it on.
