Title: Coach Fired After Parents Drink Beers
Post by: thundley4 on July 15, 2009, 12:01:09 PM
Quote
WALKERSVILLE, Md. - A Frederick County high school girls softball coach has been fired for hosting an end-of-season cookout at his Walkersville home where beer was served to other parents.

It was a cookout around Brad Young's backyard swimming pool on June 11 celebrating the end of a winning season.

"And one parent brought some beers to the party. A couple of people had those-- probably no more than five or six," said Young. "No kid was uncomfortable. No kid had access to it. No kid drank. No parent got more than probably one or two beers. I did not drink."

But another parent called the Frederick County School Board, which tells FOX 5, "The incident in question took place at what is considered an official team function."

And so Brad Young was fired and banned from coaching for three years.

How can an Official Team function be held on private property .?

Did the parents or the school pay the Coach for use of his land for a party or did he send out private invites to the team members and their family's.?

Were the kids told they had to attend this party as part of their training ?

And here I thought the Libs were getting a bit to odd for me.

I came here looking for some balance between the Conservatives and Liberals----Now I find there are Conservatives that make my hair stand on end.

Sorry Sparky but WTF-----please explain this one to me.

It's pretty piss-poor when the nanny-state that this country has become truly treats its citizens like children.

And it's shit like this that keeps me from serving my community - in the Scouts, for example. I just won't do it anymore, due to the potential for bullshit and trouble from some idiot like the one who bitched about beer being drunk at a backyard grill outing.

How can an Official Team function be held on private property .?  Happens all the time....ever heard of a graduation held at a church?  You'd think the world is about to end according to some folks.

Did the parents or the school pay the Coach for use of his land for a party or did he send out private invites to the team members and their family's.?  Makes no difference.

Were the kids told they had to attend this party as part of their training ?  See above.  Someone decided to be offended.

And here I thought the Libs were getting a bit to odd for me.They're odd for everyone.

I came here looking for some balance between the Conservatives and Liberals----Now I find there are Conservatives that make my hair stand on end.  How do you know this was a conservative?  Sounds more like a liberal PC nazi to me.

Sorry Sparky but WTF-----please explain this one to me.

WALKERSVILLE, Md.....is that the upper range of Southern Baptist?

If I were going to sue someone in this case, I'd sue the one, or ones, that brought the beer......most likely, I'd just scratch my ass and say "What?"

The coach is going to appeal. I'd bet that with the attention the story has gotten, that the board will reinstate him but will enter something into his record to save face.

It's about 30 minutes from me...not huge baptist area...some but not prolific.     It probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, have alcohol at a party celebrating a kids' softball season, but I don't think it was worth firing him over.

I don't see the problem with any ADULT consuming alcoholic beverages at what appears to me to be an "UNofficial" team function. Was this function sanctioned by the school?? I doubt it. It seems to me that it was just a get-together between team mates, parents, and the coach. I hope he gets reinstated.

Nope.  Us Bible thumpin' Southern Baptists have infiltrated every state.   :-)

BTW, not all of us think we'll go to Hell for drinking a beer.   :innocent:

I learned in Bible study at a Southern Baptist Church that drinking is not against the Bible. It is something that man made up, hence man's law.

The Bible addresses excessive drinking among other things:

Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. (NASU, Romans 13:13)

Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, let the Holy Spirit fill and control you. (NLT, Ephesians 5:18)

There are other verses that address wine in a positive way:

May God give you of heaven's dew and of earth's richness-- an abundance of grain and new wine. (NIV, Genesis 27:28)

He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate-- bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. (NIV, Psalms 104:14-15)

And then there is wisdom about drinking:

Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for you to make others fall by what you eat; it is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that makes your brother or sister stumble. The faith that you have, have as your own conviction before God. Blessed are those who have no reason to condemn themselves because of what they approve.  (NRSV, Romans 14:19-22)

The Bible is promoting moderate drinking.

The Bible is promoting moderate drinking.
Well, it certainly does not prohibit, does not require it, and tells you how if you're gonna.

I can find Bible verses that proves that God hates rabbits.

The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you.
-Leviticus 11:6 (New International Version)

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
Proverbs 6:16-19 (New International Version)

I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars and pile your dead bodies on the lifeless forms of your idols, and I will abhor you.
Leviticus 26:30 (New International Version)

So. We shouldn't eat rabbits, but they are fine to keep as cute, cuddly pets, right?

Apparently so.  Those second two verses were about liberals.   :-)

BTW, not all of us think we'll go to Hell for drinking a beer.   :innocent:

It is not a sin to drink beer or wine in moderation. Jesus drank wine, according to Luke 7:30-34.
