Title: Running in Phoenix in July
Post by: Chris_ on July 14, 2009, 09:30:27 PM
In 30 minutes, I'm going for my first training run in two years.

Current temperature outside according to Weather Underground (http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=85029) is 106.8.

Running is a mental disorder and I am clinically insane.  :-)

If you don't hear from me again, you'll know what happened.

Didn't you do this last year?

I haven't seen my marathon-running friend in a while, but he did make it to the Country Music Marathon in June.

I did it in early 2008. Then I got sidetracked with possible layoffs and other stuff.

You think I would have learned my lesson, huh? LOL.

Good luck!  You've inspired me, it is in the 90's right now, but I'm going to go for a run :-)

I'm running to the store for more beer, but I'm taking the car.  Does that count as exercise? :p

Last time I ran in Phoenix, it was July 2006 and 112 degrees.  So what, I figured--just hydrate more beforehand and take extra water, right?

WRONG.

When I was in CA, I was doing 4 miles in 35 minutes.  When I ran in AZ, I quit after 3 miles.  Do NOT think you can last out there at a 8 or 9-minute pace for long, no matter how good of shape you think you're in.

And that shit ain't nuthin compared to the insane bastards that run the Badwater.

I'm back!

It was definitely warm. Since this was my first run in a couple of years, I definitely took it easy. But man oh man does it ever feel good to be running again. I really don't know why I stopped. Just lazy I guess.

When I used to run for training, I lived in Lakeside, Ca & El Cajon, Ca. It wasn't uncommon for the summer temps to be 100°+. I always did 5-7 miles. When I went on recruiting in MN, I still ran. I has "sweat-sicles" forming from my knit cap at -27°F. Then there was Desert Shield..... daytime temps when we arrived were 130°F in the shade. I DO miss being able to run and play Judo.
