Title: Cash-Strapped L.A. Struggles to Accommodate Jackson Memorial Service

Michael Jackson's memorial service on Tuesday is expected to jam tens of thousands of fans into downtown Los Angeles, but it's also creating a monumental problem for city officials struggling to figure out logistics and how to pay for the massive police presence.

"The bottom line is public safety, but there's a cost," Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine told FOX News." And if the Jackson family's gonna spend 25 thousand dollars on a gold casket I would think that AEG and the Jackson family could help defray the costs so its a safe and secure environment for mourners that want to come."

Zine, a former member of the LAPD, also led an effort last month to help the city — which is operating at a $500 million deficit — find private funding to cover the cost of police overtime for the Los Angeles Lakers victory parade. ...

I'm sure the tax payers of LA will be only to glad to pay for this. :whatever:

A $25,000, solid bronze, 14-karat gold-plated, custom casket has been ordered for Michael Jackson, according to reports.

Showbiz website TMZ.com says the King of Pop will be laid to rest in the same kind of casket as James Brown.

I would imagine the undertaker will have quite a problem figuring out which face to put on him.

LAPD and county officers will be so busy managing this whole thing, it will be a perfect time to pull multiple bank robberies, etc., etc., etc.

He has been dead for what?  Twelve days now?  He is so pumped full of embalming juice they will never be able to bend him into that curved casket without breaking him in two.  By now, his joints are so locked he would make a good arrow.

I'm surprised they are going to bury him and not put him on display like Lenin.

I thought he wanted to be frozen or something like that? Back when he started doing that hyperbaric chamber that was like a glass coffin....I remember something about his never wanting to be buried.

I heard someone on Fox yesterday say this funeral was to cost the city a couple of million dollars...minimum for security.

I still say that there will be riots in the streets tomorrow....

And I'd just like to mention that this circus is pre-empting my soap operas.... :shame:....wasn't it Sharpton that was asking for tomorrow to be declared a "national day of mourning"..... :thatsright:

Sharpton is also calling for a postage stamp to be issued to honor MJ.

On a side note about the riots, everyones favorite church group is planning on being there to hold a "protest", The Westboro Baptist Church.

The good news is that, since he missed the deadline for cryogenic freezing, future generations of little boys will be safe from him.

Some reporter said a little while ago....."expect the Jackson family to end the memorial service with something surprising that will shock (sic) everybody"....

People...I have news....Michael Jackson is not really dead. The government just wanted a distraction for a couple of weeks......

Maybe it will be a lifesize animated Michaelcrow from "The Wiz" singing "Ease On Down The Road".

Why is the City paying for the funeral anyway? I'm pretty sure when I die, it will be up to my family to foot the bill. And we don't have the millions of dollars the Jacksons do.
It's ludicrous for a city on the verge of bankruptcy to do this.

The city is only paying for the necessary security to try and keep the loons in order.
