Title: Best plan I've heard for Illegal Immigration
Post by: Rebel Yell on February 22, 2008, 09:33:07 AM
I heard this plan on The Lars Larson Show last night.  One of the senators in Iowa s pushing this plan, but I don't know how much traction it has.

Employers should no longer be able to take tax deductions on payroll paid to illegal immigrants.  In order to take a deduction on patroll, you must be able to provide matching names ans social security numbers.

His example....

The owner of a large orchard who hires illegals has 20 employees, all illegals.  He pays them $20,000 each, for a total payroll of $400,000.  He sells $600,000 in produce, for a profit of $200,000 minus other expenses.  At the end of the year, if he can't provide matching names and SSN's, he has to pay the taxes on that $400,000 in payroll.  This will cost him about $150,000 of his $200,000 profit.  Therefore it would no longer be profitable for him to hire illegals.  No more jobs for illegals = no more reason for them to be here.

We need to hold the employers responsible for hiring these people.  If not, the cycle will never be broken.

What do you think?

I think it's a great start.  I've always said penalize the employers FIRST and you won't have to worry about deporting anyone - they'll go back on their own.

The people I've talked to here keep saying that it will kill the small farmer (we have alot of those here).  My response, then shut up bitchin' about illegal immigrants if you're against the means to stop them.  You can't have it both ways.  That money should be taxed, if not by the employee, then get it from the employer.

I agree about having it both ways. We are part of the problem. Lots of employers take advantage of the illegal labor and do little to discourage it. I think everyone involved in helping illegals needs to be penalized. It won't stop until things are evenly dealt with.

I also think that we should tie our unemployment offices into the immigration system. Bear with me, this is but a pipe dream and impossible and I know we already have job matching programs - but it's my take:

Anyone who is on govt assistance and able bodied needs to be matched to an employer looking to hire people. If the person refuses to take the job, then kick them off welfare and go down the list. Once you have run out of legal citizens unwilling to take the job, offer it to an immigrant who has applied to work in the U.S. - then make them a citizen.

Yes, I know that's full of holes but.....

I think allowing illegals to sue for minimum wages, OSHA work conditions, worker's comp. etc would also help. That means each employer hiring illegals is 1 disgruntled illegal away from getting sued and with that suit getting finked-out to the feds on his criminal liabilities. That would also help in taking away the incentive to hire illegals.

Let the lawyers do the searching and enforcement work for us.

They were going to do this and a Liberal Judge threw it out.

But you are on to something -- we don't need anything new, we just need to ENFORCE THE CURRENT LAWS.  That's all!

We are already seeing illegals self-deport in cities/states where they have passed laws requiring citizenship (which, thank God, passed judicial muster).  The problem will fix itself in a few years if we just get tough.

I wish they'd "self-deport" a little faster here. I'm sick and tired of the rot......

Get your city council to pass some reverse sanctuary laws.  No way will that work for me, I am in El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula

While going after employers is a good start, we need to take away other incentives...like free healthcare, education, food stamps, etc., etc.,.....  No legal status, no freebies.  Don't like it?...go home.
BTW, I'm not paying to send you back there either.  You got here on your own, you can get the  :censored: out on your own.

I keep hearing the argument that if the illegals were to go back or be deported, the price of food will go up. Well, if it means Hector will go back to Me-hi-co and stand in line this time if he wants to get in, I sure as hell wouldn't  mind paying 10 cents more for a head of lettuce.

...and you'd know it was picked by another former recipient of government handouts.

We already threw the mayor out and got one that finally closed down the day labor center. The local police finally got "certified" to start asking for "papers". The city council is enforcing maximum occupancy rules on dwellings. But the libtards are still complaining and whining about being mean to the poor and downtrodden. *eyeroll* It's a start, but you can drive from street to street and see the rot. It's hard to erase that. I've had to change where I shop three times in the last four years simply because of the rot. Ugh.
