Don't expect many people to respond to much this weekend.
Just on a break for a few minutes from gouging my eyes out over walkdowns for the upcoming plant outage.
4 hours down, 8 to go. I ended up blowing off OT yesterday so I've got to make it up today.
Weather is still cloudy but at least it's SLIGHTLY warmer than yesterday. Only got to 59 at the house. Should improve somewhat by the weekend, though.

The electricians that work for my employer like it when the local nuke plant does a shutdown. They tend to get quite a bit of OT.
I'm having an unexpected weekend off to do being slow at work, and me not wanting to work in a different department.

Back in the early days of nuclear power, it wasn't all that unusual for a plant to go down for one reason or another every 60-90 days. Now, it's expected that a plant will go "breaker-to-breaker", i.e., no forced outages during the entire fuel cycle, which on a typical nuke plant, goes about 18 months, some even longer. Nuke plants are considered "base load", meaning they run 100 percent, 100 percent of the time. Our expected availability is over 98 percent. Compare that to the 60 or so percent of a conventional plant.
We just hit 420 days online (and will, if we do the entire cycle, knock on wood, be over 500 days by the outage) and as managment has told us, this is when it gets fun trying to keep stuff running so we don't have to shut down.

I just showed up at work. I'll be working Friday and Sunday; at least I get to sleep in tonight. I hate this new mid-shift, but I have wait to get my new schedule.
At least it isn't busy.
-
I work a mid shift today also.
Not sure how busy we will be.

Well, look at it this way--at least you can enjoy the $1.99 breakfast special at the local casino, and have a beer to go with that.
I don't know how many strange looks we got last outage (I was on nights) going into the local greasy spoon and ordering eggs and beer at 6 am.

Up to my knees in sewage lagoon muck today. Waders decided to rip out at the crotch, so that put an end to that. Ripped out about half of the dead and dying cattails. Will tackle the rest tomorrow.
Lawn mowing is also on the agenda today.

What a shitty thing to have happen!

Do you have neoprene or rubber? I got a small tear in my rubber waders and fixed it right up with some rubber cement.

Thank God for holidays. At least its not a madhouse here today...its almost pleasant.
I'll be home in three hours. :couch:

Alright! Kroger had half a dozen eye-of-chuck steaks... I snatched up all of them. Almost gave up looking for them because they were hiding. Mmmm, mmm!

Had today off and just been putzing around the apartment.
I read through the buyer's contract (I'm buying a house!) and tried to understand as much of the legalese as possible.
Took a long nap. Watched some Wimbledon. Made some supper.
I was hoping to watch a storm roll in but it fizzled before it reached me. Boo.
Tonight, I'm thinking a bubble bath followed by a movie...I have Paul Blart: Mall Cop but I may save that for later and check out what's on instant demand on Netflix.
Or maybe a long drive around the city first....got to piss off those libs by wasting energy and gas. Woot!

Congratulations!
You need a new avatar. You're too sweet to have that ugly old caveman picture.

I know...I'm looking.
I had the D-backs logo but they've crossed over to a dark place and I refuse to join them. LOL. I'll see what I can find.

I'm considering buying an acre of land outside the city and having a timber-frame or a small ranch house put up. I don't want to get stuck with an enormous house and the bill to go with it, but the only thing in my price rage are condos. I'm not too thrilled about that. I think I may just go on renting for a while.

It's all happening very quickly. I would be purchasing my BIL's current home (they are moving elsewhere). With home prices so low in the valley coupled with the first-time home buyer's tax credit, I realized I could do this, even on my piddly salary. But the window of opportunity is small, so I need to get cracking. Have to close by 12/1 to qualify for the tax credit.
I was plugging numbers into online calculators just to try and get an idea of what mortgage payments might be and I wouldn't be paying much more than what I'm paying in rent right now. In some cases, I would be paying less, which boggles my mind. If I end up having a smaller mortgage payment, I'm going to be kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
I meet with a loan specialist next week.

They're rubber, with some kind of cloth background. This tear is huge, though. I doubt that any attempt to fix it would work.

Tell me about it. I told Mrs. E that this was a job for Mike Rowe.

Well, that stinks. If you were in my neighborhood, I'd loan you my set. At least "with the economy the way it is" (I'm getting tired of hearing that as a selling point) you should be able to pick up a replacement pair cheaply.
I like the rubber ones I have... they're easy to patch even if they aren't insulated.

Another storm moved in and now I'm getting rain, thunder, and lightening. Woohoo!

Enjoy it while it lasts. Wasn't it a couple years ago you folks went 7 months without rain? :pokingpoop:

We got our butts kicked at work, it was really busy.

That is great!

It's a buyers market.
I had a friend find a deal so sweet, he put the house & closing costs on a credit card, while he waits to sell a house in another state. The house was bank owned on a 3/4 acre corner lot. All new inside, not a huge house, but just the right size for him & his wife.
It sold for 84,000 four years ago, before the updates....they bought it for 21,000....they kept putting in low offers and the bank finally said "yes"
I need a deal like that!

I find that using the 1-percent rule still has its purpose. If I can keep all the house bills under 1 percent of the mortgage amount, it's all good. So far, I'd say I'm well under that, even with our Godawful property taxes.
