473,000 Jobs lost in June..
The US private sector shed 473,000 jobs in June to cope with a prolonged recession, a survey by payrolls firm ADP showed Wednesday. Most analysts had expected 395,000 job cuts.

3. I'm afraid it has to get bad and will likely get much worse before our captains of industry finally realize they can't stay in business without customers and that they won't have customers unless people have jobs that pay them enough to live on.
Cheap credit masked that fact for the last 20 years or so. The bills are coming due, though, and nobody's in a position to take on more debt.
Cheap labor conservatism has run its course with the predictable outcome, a crashed economy. The last people to figure that out, alas, are the cheap labor conservatives and those people are still in charge of both parties.

4. I must agree, even if the number is wrong..to see anything around 400,000 is awful. Severe contraction of the economy, and all the pain and suffering assoicated with it. I feel for those without work, families to feed, increased fear..etc...........

The current downturn began circa November 2006 or January 2007; either one.

9. I think the recession will last the rest of the year
I predict we won't see job growth until early 2010 (at the earliest).
The Republicans will try to turn this into Obama's mess. This time next year, "The Obama Recession" will be a GOP talking point.

some here will tell you it is just aok here at du!! as i was told a couple days ago...
as all the car dealerships are all closed in my area..and so many now are out of jobs..and health insurance ..and have no hope of employment!..store closings all over the place..but shhhhhhhhhhhh don't you dare mention it here on DU!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming he's serious, as he doesn't put a /sarc at the end. I think I've run into him before, and he really is very stupid.

I actually heard on the radio news this morning that the job stats are much worse than are being reported.
It appears that the administration is "cooking the books" by eliminating from the unemployed percentage the seasonal workers, and those whose benefits have expired.......in other words, the unemployment numbers are closer to 15% than the 9.5 reported, and due to the change in methodology, cannot be accurately compared to previous periods.....apples and oranges.......
So much for the most "transparent" administration in modern history.......how's that Hope and Change thing working out for ya.........
