I hope that I am not putting this in the wrong place; I'm not active on DU so I don't quite understand how this works.
Ranj Niere, realpolitic/fovea on DU, died on June 21st of a massive heart attack in his sleep.
A memorial will be held at 6pm on Friday July 3rd at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival site. Parking is in the performer's lot. It will be a celebration of Ranj's life, according to his often-expressed wish. If anyone local wants to come and is able to make it, please do--consider it a personal invitation from me, and please come introduce yourself to me.
Dress is casual, and please bring your cameras. In lieu of flowers, we are collecting donations to dedicate a memorial bench to Ranj on his beloved Katy Trail (write to teresa_beers@yahoo.com for details). If you prefer, you may make a donation in his name to the American Heart Association here: http://honor.americanheart.org/site/TR/Events/General?pxfid=23390&fr_id=1030&pg=fund
DU gave Ranj a lot of enjoyment (and frustration, and cause to tear his hair and rant to me) over the years, and I am so grateful to all of you for being a part of his life.
If you want to reach me, you can email me at classics.cat@gmail.com.
Thats a shame. Godspeed Fovea.

Naaaa bullshit! The democrats will continue to count his vote anyway!

Never heard of him. Not a DUmmy of much prominence.
I'm sure his passing improves our nation, but by an amount too small to accurately measure.
-
Prayers said for all those who mourn this man's death. May God have mercy on his soul.
-
RIP.
Travel well, brother. We'll be along soon enough.
-
Sad news. Prayers for his family.

It appears that some on DU knew him IRL.

77. I am so sorry to hear this.
My heart goes out to you and all his loved ones. He and his photos will be missed. He was a very talented photographer. I hope his pictures help bring you peace one day.
I might look for one of the photo threads to check out his work.
on edit:
One of his photo threads just a few days before his death: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=280x56455
There are also 3 very neat pictures in post #100 in Cat's thread. Very cool.

Those pictures are incredible! Thanks for the info!

I think my virus software has lapsed and needs re-upped but I looked, and those are really good.
-
Yes, those pictures are very cool. That 's difficult to photograph. RIP, Ranj.
When it's my turn to go, please don't have my service at a Renaissance Faire.

We'll have those guys from freecreditreport.com singing for it too.

You should search the name, Ranj Niere. There are many hits...some photo sites, some blogs. Evidently, he was pretty well known.

Good idea, I did and found his photostream... http://www.flickr.com/photos/cameraobscura/
He was good, really good.
I'm sad for his family.

More of his stuff: http://fiveprime.org/hivemind/User/Ranj%20Niere
Noted Kansas City Photographer Ranj Niere passed away peacefuly last weekend of natural causes. Below is posted information regarding the memorial service. Ranj was well known on flickr.com, an international online photography site where he was recognized for his exceptional flower and artistic model photography. Ranj showed exceptional technical skill in his artistic use of lighting, composition, and depth of focus. Many of his flowers seemingly float in and out of focus, as if to emphasize their ephemeral beauty. His photostream is still available for view as of this posting.

When all is said and done, the guy was just an obscure no-name moonbat,
who's having a grotesque funeral at a renaissance fair.

He still had people that loved him, and he was still a child of God.

Right. That description also fits Papa Doc Duvalier. I'm pretty sure this DUmmy was a better man than that; far as I know he never harmed anyone. And Papa Doc was a lousy photographer. But Papa Doc would have drawn the line at a renaissance fair.

I dislike seeing anyone speak evil of the dead for their political stances. After all, very few liberals have any clue Who they'll meet a few seconds after death...and it's just tacky to gloat about it while they're so miserable.

Sorry. By and large, I tend to agree......but... there are good dead people and bad dead people.
In select cases, e.g. Killer Tiller and the Jackson pervert, I very much enjoy speaking evil of them when someone does otherwise, and will continue.
I'd much rather be accused of gloating than be accused of sounding sanctimonious.
And, after all, in this case I did concede the dead DUmmy was probably a better man than Papa Doc.

Cool photos. RIP dude.
