I took the kidlet on a backpacking trip two weekends ago (Fathers Day). This was the first time she's been back to "Bug Lake" since she was 8, she's now 11.
The trail in at the 2/3's point (the hike is about 3 miles) where we stop for water at a small creek:

On the way in you pass Culbertson Lake, which has landowner cabins on it. Other than the landowners, the trail is foot traffic only.

While we stopped at the cabins we noticed the color of the mountains behind them. A sort-of metallic green.
I don't think the pics capture that, but they are still noteworthy.

Here we are at Bug Lake, my long time friend, who first showed me this lake in 1982, having a morning coffee :

We caught a few fish that morning:

We then decided to go up to Rock Lake which is about a 1/4 mile above Lower Rock where we were staying.
The fish were bigger, and pounded the crap out of black Rooster Tails:

All these fish were caught by "Kat", my daughter.

Here's a vid that gives a better "feel" for the lake, it really is my absolute favorite place to go to "get away".
My daughter really had a good time, and picked up on the fishing quite well. This was the best Fathers Day present I've ever recieved.

Where the hell is Bug Lake ?
That's my daughters name for it. Usually, if the temps are higher (the temps were in the mid 60s' during the trip) the CLOUDS of bugs (you should see the stonefly hatches :o ) makes you "live" in DEET. Makes for big fish, but it can be somewhat uncomfortable. This year was not too bad.
The lake is located in the Grouse Ridge area of the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Beautiful area, daughter, and family bonding vacation! :cheersmate:
