Title: No A/C for Rachel
Post by: Servonaut on June 30, 2009, 04:04:43 PM
Man up girl, your a Texan  :fuelfire:

Quote
There was a time, back in Texas, when I would see articles from Britain and Europe about their troubles with summer “heat” and I would laugh - quite haughtily, and as smugly as possible. I would scoff when seeing headlines like this one, which is from today: “Britain bakes on hottest day of the year as temperatures soar to 83F“…

Quote
Although today was the hottest day of the year temperatures are set to rise even further, forecasters have said.

…The Met Office confirmed today is already the hottest day of the year so far, with Charlwood, near Gatwick in Surrey, recording a temperature of 28.4C (83F).

Previously the hottest day was last Thursday at Heathrow at 28C (82.4).

…Hospitals have been put on standby to deal with sunstroke victims as the Met Office issued its first ever heatwave warning amid fears that it could become dangerously hot and humid.

…The mercury could hit a high of 91F (33C) by the middle of the week - and temperatures are expected to remain a warm and sticky 64F (18C) at night.

I used to read that sort of thing and think, “it’s 110 here so **** off.”

Well. I was being a jerk.

Go read the rest  :cheersmate:

There are many people here in the US that don't have air conditioning. 90 ° isn't all that bad without air.

This past Saturday morning at 9am, it was only 80 degrees....humidity at 82%.  Never seen it that bad unless it was pouring rain...no such luck.

And in France, they let the elderly die in this weather.

Of course, given the cap-and-trade deal, we may learn how to live without A/C again, too.   :maddernhell: :maddernhell:

That is almost identical to what it was at work for me Saturday morning.  It felt better when the temp went up and the humidity dropped.

I went to GT.  I know what summers there are like.  Ditto when I went to Nuclear Power School (Orlando).

He doesn't need to go that far south....just come to TN!

Had a heck of a thunderstorm at 2am....at least I don't have to worry about watering the deer munched flowers... :whatever:

You got rain???  No fair....send it back this way.  The deer aren't so much of a problem for us this year, but the  :censored: raccoons are driving us crazy.  I think a few of them may get "lead poisoning" if they don't move on soon.   :evillaugh:

aw the good old days......when airconditioning meant the funeral home had delivered new hand fans to the church.

How many of you remember those.

We have a family of raccoons. M saw them the other night....daddy, momma and 4 little babies. We feed them. There's a set spot just into the woods at the back of the driveway, where I put food, when I clean out the refrig or cabinets. Since I've been doing that, they have been quite well behaved.  :-) We're on septic and it just saves going into the system or being hauled to the dump.

I'm 56....I remember going to my grandmother's when I was a kid....the fans were laying on the church pews in the summertime...and the picture of the funeral home was on it. (small town of 3000 in Central Illinois)

You're going to regret that !!!  :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

Ever hear of a compost pile?? They're ecologically friendly.........  ;)

I tried that last summer. Those coons cost us a fortune to feed. Then, even after we had been feeding them, they'd climb a tree adjacent to the deck and poop all over. They also started getting into stuff and tearing things up. I quit feeding them, and most of them left for other feeding grounds. There was one that refused to leave, no matter what. That one ended up going to raccoon heaven. Another came around this spring, it, too, found it's way to raccoon heaven. The psychotic white dog that has made this place it's home will soon be going to doggie heaven because she's become/ been a nuisance. I'm not real keen on shooting her, but her anti-social tendencies and her proclivity to drag garbage from other houses into the yard has long run out her welcome here. I've been trying to chase her off, but with us feeding the cats around here, she won't leave for other feeding/safety areas.

I'm guessing that small town is still just that, a small town. There are still tons of towns like that scattered around here.
