Why Do Atheists Have to Talk About Atheism?
By Greta Christina, AlterNet. Posted June 26, 2009.
Thinking you're right and trying to persuade other people you're right is not intolerant or close-minded -- it's a cornerstone of democracy.
Whenever the subject of atheism comes up, anywhere that isn't an atheist discussion group or something, one sentiment almost inevitably comes up:
"I wish atheists wouldn't talk so much about atheism."
The sentiment gets worded in many different ways. "The new atheists are so evangelical." "This atheist criticism of religion is just intolerant." "You atheists are just as close-minded as the hard-line religious believers you're criticizing."
But the essence of it is the same: The fact that many atheists are talking publicly about our atheism, and are trying to persuade people that we're right about it, shows that we're ... well, evangelical, intolerant and close-minded. So today, I want to explain why so many atheists think it's important to talk about atheism ... and why many of us try to persuade other people that atheism is correct.

4. Dear Christina
Most of us really don't give a shit what you believe. Really.
We're just sick of having you ASSume that atheists are without ethics and morals because they're not afraid of some old white man sitting up on a cloud.
It works both ways, honey. If you don't want to hear about atheism, stop preaching about your own beliefs and stop ASSuming that everybody you meet shares them. Above all, stop judging people you don't know and even people you do.
After all, isn't that what Jesus told you?

9. "The sentiment gets worded in many different ways." The author is so correct.
"I wish ____ wouldn't talk about ____ so much" Could apply to anything the intolerant don't want to hear about.
From homosexuality to women's rights to atheism and on and on and on.
Yep, on and on and on...
Ann Coulter tells O'Reilly that Tiller wasn't murdered, he was "terminated"... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5940682)

3. She is certifiably insane. And she thinks she has logical reasoning skills?
There are so many things wrong with those statements you'd need a flow chart to explain it.
Just STFU, mAnn.

Ann Coulter apparently hasn't
The world according to the DUmp..."Thinking you're right and trying to persuade other people you're right is not intolerant or close-minded -- it's a cornerstone of democracy." Unless, of course, we happen to disagree with you. Then you should STFU, stop trolling, and grow up already!!

Oh man, I have no idea where the warped primitive gets her stupid notion of what people know God is.
As usual, the warped primitive is just looking for something to Hate, whether it's God or a rock or porch-railings. She just needs something to Hate, nothing more than that.

As soon as they can explain DNA and the Big Bang, I might listen to their speel. Until then they can just, in their own words, STFU!

As soon as they can explain DNA and the Big Bang in the context of entropy and Chaos Theory, I might listen to their speel. Until then they can just, in their own words, STFU!
Fixed. :II:

Saying things like "Why do you believe in fairytales" is a method of trying to persuade people that you're right???
In primitive world, saying things like that is the pinnacle of tolerance and open-mindedness, and to ask they not do that and to allow like-minded people to have an open conversation among themselves without interference is intolerant and closed-minded. Black is white, up is down.

The warped primitive is an exceedingly mean person, even to her co-religionists at the DU. She's always throwing a snark-bomb into whatever discussion they're having. Even when they talk about sinful foods they find delicious, she has to bluster her way in and scold them about her only eating vegetables and the occasional fish. In short, a bitch. I imagine she has zero friends in real life. Probably has those two frown lines between the eyebrows that make one look permanently pissed off.

Because it's their religion.

Now, one shuoldn't be too hard on the warped primitive.
Hard, yes, but not too hard.
The warped primitive hasn't had exactly an easy life.
The warped primitive is one of those human tragedies, a woman who looks more like a man than a woman, but with the normal feelings of a woman, including that of wanting to be told she's pretty.
The warped primitive appears rather tall, broad-shouldered, facial characteristics more resembling the male than the female, including some facial hair. Husky voice. The warped primitive would be a good man to have around, if one were in a barroom brawl or if one needed help pushing an automobile buried in snow.
God commands that we not make fun of the ugly, and reserves a special place in Hell for those who make fun of ugly children.
One imagines, quite reasonably, that the warped primitive as an ugly child was much teased by other children; maybe she even had the nickname "Horseface" or something similar. The warped primitive has also given many hints that she never lived up to the expectations of her paternal ancestor, nor of an ex-husband or ex-live-in-boyfriend, and that much of it had to do with the way she looks.
And so the warped primitive is bitter, angry, resentful, Hate-filled.
This is why it is imperative upon the male race to always always always look for something attractive in non-attractive women, and to compliment them on it. It has to be something real, and every woman has something attractive about her.
Every woman wishes to be told that she's pretty (at least in some way), and if no one ever tells her that, she ends up all bent out of shape, bitter and angry.
A few kind words can prevent, or retard, the development of primitivity.
Of course, the warped primitive inconveniently forgot that it matters not what other people think about one; it only matters what God thinks about one.

That is all true Frank.
