Just as the House of Representatives was getting ready to vote on a sweeping energy bill that its backers said would reduce the nation's carbon emissions and encourage development of renewable energy, House GOP Leader John Boehner took to the floor.
Instead of wrapping up the debate on behalf of House Republicans, he took advantage of his right as a party leader to speak indefinitely by launching into the House equivalent of a filibuster. Rather than speaking for the expected two minutes, he started to read through the lengthy bill page by page, critiquing the many points he disagrees with. He spoke for more than an hour.
"I hate to do this to all of you, I do, but when you file a 300 page amendment at 3:09 in the morning, someone needs to work on it," Boehner told his colleagues. "I want to make sure everyone understands what's in this 300 page amendment."
A press statement put out by Boehner's office confirmed he was launching the House equivalent of a Senate filibuster.

Thats right - Boehner is Filibustering right now - He is reading a 300+ page Obama climate change and energy bill one page at a time and contesting everything - He has been at it for about 45 minutes now. You can witness this small miracle on C-Span.

That's not a filibuster--filibusters happen only in the Senate.
That's one of those parliamentary maneuvers things.
In Nebraska, it is the law that an entire bill, no matter how long it is, has to be read in its entirety, aloud, before it is voted upon.
Too bad that wasn't the law in Washington, regarding the "stimulating" bill.

That is true - its a senatorial thing only, which is why I say he has Brass Balls - It is in essence a filibuster as he extends his four minutes indefinitely on an unwritten courtesy extended to him as minority leader - as it goes into Friday evening. It may not be officially a filibuster, but as they say, if it quacks like a duck...
-
Right, sir, it's a great delaying tactic, just like the filibuster.
The Demos of course used this tactic often when in the minority, and we accepted it as a normal and usual nuisance, something to be tolerated.
But now that the tables are turned, Republicans as the minority doing the same thing, one wonders if Bela Pelosi might try to change the rule.

I don't need a link, but which forum?
I'd like to drag some of their idiocy over here.

There is a good reason for Boehner to be doing this.
GOP filibusters climate-change vote
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) slowed Democrats’ attempt to pass a sweeping climate-change legislation Friday evening, reading page-by-page through a 300-page Democratic amendment before allowing a roll call vote.
It was a House version of a Senate filibuster – and a way to protest the addition of the 300-page managers’ amendment at 3 a.m. Friday.

Why was it necessary to wait until 3a.m. this morning to add anything to this pos bill?

I'd like to leave this in Breaking News, so I edited the OP to include a news article and headline.
Carry on. :p

Because most every "journalist" who isn't completely in the tank for the Minisrty of Troof was asleep then.

Much appreciated.

Groovy. RINOs all. Well, at least the bill was close. It will probably die in the Senate.

Indeed it will. Boehner sent a loud, clear, and compelling message to the Senate.
Too bad those RINOs weren't listening. :loser:
-
Here's hoping that all eight of these traitors go down in flames in next year's primaries. If I were the national and state GOP, I'd be looking REALLY ****ING HARD and someone to replace them all.
ETA--and my moonbat voted for it as well. More ammo to pound her over the head with in a year.

Mark Kirk surprises me, as he's never been the RINO type.

Maybe he's just now coming out of the closet, so to speak?
I've heard him on the radio, and most of the news reports about him have centered on his service in the military.
However, I just found this piece of info which I never knew:
In Congress, Congressman Kirk works to advance a suburban agenda that is pro-defense, pro-personal responsibility, pro-environment, and pro-science. He wrote a number of provisions which became law, including funding for commuter rail, improving veteran's health care, ensuring military voting, and boosting aviation security.[4]
Kirk shepherded H.R. 810, the Stem Cell bill, through the House in 2005.
Kirk is co-chair of the Moderate Republican "Tuesday Group", a coalition of 40 centrist Republican Member of Congress. [5] Kirk is a member of some moderate Republican groups such as the Republican Main Street Partnership, the Republican Majority for Choice, Republicans for Choice, the Republican Leadership Council, and Republicans for Environmental Protection.

So this is how our country dies?

So this is how our country dies?
I'm curious to see if this will result in more stories about people not being able to afford home heating oil during winter or more panic-mongering during summer months after this legislation increases their utility bills, and if the jabbering goons pushing this garbage will be able to put two and two together.
-
Shit, I knew I should have locked in my oil contract last week.

Looks like I'll be hitting West Marine for the solar panels (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearchView?catalogId=10001&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&keyword=Solar+panels&Ntt=Solar+panels&N=377+710&storeId=10001&Ntk=Primary+Search&ddkey=SiteSearch) before they get too damned expensive.

That POS McHugh is my son of a bitch. I don't know if he anticipates a further political career after his secretary gig is over, but I will do everything in my power to see that that does not happen. Nor, any parks, fountains, rest stops and the like named after him in legacy. Guys, I called and wrote and hounded him over this over and over. His constituents are the low income class. Around here, a job with a $22K salary is considered a good job. We cannot afford this hoax. I am so livid.
-
Oh, you all forget that Henry Waxman hired a speed reader to come in and read the bill to the committee. As far as I am concerned, he is an arrogant SOB who needs to be voted out just for his display of utter contempt for the American people.
What a joke! Let the speed reading begin!
