Oh my.

Chief S itting Bull, the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive, isn't to be seen in the lounge on Skins's island, so one supposes the wealthy California piggy primitive will have to do.

Some people won't be coming back...ever...

Because their deaths took them from us.

We're coming up on the anniversary of Khashka's death...

I wrote this in his honor:

“Remembering you”

It’s been a year
Since you left us
The sharp pain is gone
But the lingering loss remains.....

I noticed the California piggy primitive has one of those "c"s inside of a circle copyright things at the end of this "poem," so I don't want to mess with it--and besides, it's not that good anyway

The California piggy primitive responds to each and every comment at this bonfire, and since the bonfire's pretty big, and since we all know the California piggy's boilerplate responses, I've omitted bringing her comments over here, to save time and trouble and character-space.....and wear and tear on the eyeballs.

13. They have giant anteaters at the National Zoo now...

There have been times when I wish I had an anteater handy...like when they invaded our kitchen, or when they kept getting under the hood of my car.

Did you get my message about teachers?

15. Yes we did, and thank you!

Our daughter is in music camp next week, and after that we will make a deciscion (i think)!

Hmmm.  It looks like the godless of Guiness primitive and the rabid terrapin primitive are planning some mischief.

19. I hope she has a great time...

I always loved music camp when I was a kid.

Now I coach adults at a summer chamber music camp...I love it just as much as when I was participating as a kid!

16. OMG Khephra

you probably didn't know him - he was before your time, but an amazing person

Yeah, the Khephra primitive, the grossly overweight basement-dwelling primitive who collapsed and died at his computer--a blood clot from the leg getting into his lung, if I recall correctly--and his mother, upon finding her slouched-over son, reached past his corpse (still logged in) to ask the primitives what she should do.

He was so quick to scoop stories for LBN...Always on top of things. Sorely missed.

20. He was DUer #4 that I met

He and WillPitt both at the same time.

Despite all the DU parties I've had people would be surprised at how awkwardly shy I can be. I mean I almost cancelled that party from extreme panic attacks I was having but my therapist thought it would be good for me to do. Thankfully I had Ramsey helping me organize - what an amazing DUer - which btw she was the first DUer I met. (#2 and #3 - Skinner and Earl)

35. So was he

Shy, that is. I managed to cajole him into meeting a few others (5thGenDem and davsand) waaaaaaay back in 2002. Might have been the first "meetup" ever, I know we were the first ones he ever met.

24. Birdman - he was at that first gathering in Philly

And I always remember where I was at when I heard about Paul Wellstone dying.

RBNYC and I were on our way to DC when Will Pitt (who was also heading down with a few DUers) called my phone. I gave the phone to RBNYC to answer (I was on the BW Parkway and driving ) - the way she reacted I thought Will was in a car accident. Instead it was finding out about Paul Wellstone.

22. You know Haole Girl started a thread about how close to a bad accident she was

Made me think of you and Maddy.

JJ was frantic trying to track you 2 down and make sure both of you were ok after Katrina. I mean I felt like I should call or something but I'm never good at those things but I was glad someone was reaching out.

27. JJ was my life line, she truly pulled me through and kept me connected to life when things were so dismal, when I didn't know how to go on. She let me know that people like you were out there pulling for me, willing to do what they could. I used the last of the bees wax skin softner you sent me not too long ago - thanks again for sending it.

DU can be so very good, there were so many who did help me in many different ways and I will always be so grateful. Just like so many came together for Andy.

But for all the good, the bad makes it hard to feel the safety it once offered. There is a huge disconnect, it isn't as it once was and I don't think it will ever be what it was.

28. Thank you Miss C-P

There have been some truly fine people pass through here, and touched us. RIP to far too many.

Yeah, Doug's ex-wife put the touch on a lot of primitives, but she's of course still on Skins's island, so never mind.

33. Those last lines...

Khashka knows.

I remember Khashka.

About those last lines in your poem, they remind me of a conversation that Khashka and I had one time.

I miss Khashka.

42. Thank you

That is a wonderful poem and very true. I've had a couple of losses lately, this last part in particular has a great deal of resonance with me

The pain is subdued these days
But every now and then
It stabs me
The way it’s doing now

51. Och.

Thanks, dear. It's important to remember.

When I look back at my arguably long time here, it puts things in perspective. Banning, schmanning, we lost real good people. I hope wherever they are they know we're here thinking about them.

Well, it's a good thing I didn't bring over the California piggy primitive's saccharine responses; otherwise I'm sure there would've been a mass outbreak of diabetes here.

Well oh my dear :-)

Has the CA piggy opened the halfway house in that enormous mansion yet?

The whole "poem" is a narcissistic "I miss you because you said nice things to me and about me... Me, me, me, and more about me" selfishness.  Not that I would expect anything less.

Ah I see the poet laureate of DU is waxing poetic with as much profundity and talent as your average love-struck 15 year old girl.

Millions of people remember that moment. They all turned to the person next to them and said, "Who's that?"

Fortunately, I had already remembered that by about this very same time next week, it'll be time to put up a post, and sticky it to the top, giving the real-life details of what really happened.

The "anniversary" is July 7.

I thought the California Piggy was Leaving the DUmp. I guess she has to die first then someone else can opine poetically over her riki she brought to the DUmp.
