Suspected U.S. Strike Kills at Least 60 in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — An airstrike believed to be carried out by a United States drone killed at least 60 people at a funeral in South Waziristan on Tuesday, residents of the area and local news reports said.
Details of the attack, which occurred in Makeen, remained unclear, but the reported death toll was exceptionally high. If the reports are indeed accurate and if the attack was carried out by a drone, the strike would be perhaps the deadliest since the United States began using the aircraft to fire remotely guided missiles at members of the Taliban and Al Qaeda in the tribal areas of Pakistan.
If confirmed, the strike would be the 23rd by a United States drone this year, as the Obama administration has intensified a policy inherited from the Bush administration.
The strike came as the Pakistani Army and Air Force had begun operations in South Waziristan against the forces of the Pakistani Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud. The group’s suicide bombings in major cities have terrorized Pakistanis for years.

One round, sixty kills. Sounds good to me.
The jug-eared muslim CIC hasn't wrecked the military yet.
But his base won't like this.

10. If Obama doesn't put a stop to this shit, I will swear enmity on him for the rest of his term.
I don't care how smart he (supposedly) is, or how "cool" he is, or how adorable his family is, this is total bullshit.
I'm done. There's no ****ing excuse for this stupid ****ed up policy.
sw
This floozie is not a mole however.

suprised that orders from Jan 09 are just now getting to the combat area. I always thought that the radio waves went faster than that. I mean that can be the only excuse.

12. In 1972, when Nixon bombed a harbor in N Vietnam (Haiphong?) there were immediate spontaneous protests in Boulder, Co. We were at a restaurant on Flagstaff Hill, saw the news reports about the bombing, and came out later and heard the demonstrations below us in town, which continued for several days and shut Boulder down. Got tear gassed on the CU campus. Is that what it's going to take to stop this? Can that happen today?
What are you waiting on, primitive?

13. That's what we should do, but the fact these atrocities are being committed by a Democratic administration seems to have somehow made them OK.
Seems to have? We conservatives knew you'd be A-OK with it if a Dem were in office the last 8 years.

14. Exactly!
Sad, huh? I thought people's principles ran further than getting mad at Bush.
Oh, please!! :whatever: It was always been about liberal hatred and distain for anyone who's not as stupid and gullible as you are.

Actually we were pretty mad at Bush for NOT dropping a bomb on 200 some-odd jihadis at a funeral. The legal eagles called the cemetery off-limits. There were even pics taken from the drone of the event.
It seems Obama is more ruthless than Bush.

Since they keep bringing up Vietnam,I wonder which parties President got us into that mess in the first damn place? Then refused to fight the damn war like it should have. As far as I am concerned the blood of the millions of Vietnamese and Cambodians ,Plus the 58,000 military dead are on the hands of the Dems.

Either that, or more likely, Lord Zero is too busy running and hiding from the Iranian protesters, as well as the Norks and their incessant saber-rattling. He doesn't have time to pay much attention to the military. Looks to me like the commander on the ground saw a target of opportunity and wasn't going to let some Lord Zero bullshit obfuscate the mission and throw it in disarray.
Update:
The Predator strike aircraft fired three Hellfire missiles as Taliban fighters gathered for a funeral of Khog Wali, a leader in Baitullah's army in South Waziristan who was among six Taliban fighters killed in the first US airstrike earlier today.
Commander Sangeen, a Taliban commander from Afghanistan, was reported to be among those killed in the strike at the funeral. Predators are said to have fired on Taliban vehicles as they attempted to leave the scene of the attack, Dawn reported.
The attack took place in the town of Makeen, a stronghold of Baitullah Mehsud, according to Geo News. The US has hit Taliban facilities in the Makeen region three times since June 14. The Pakistani Air Force has also launched several attacks in the region.
These attacks coincided with an important meeting between Baitullah and a senior delegation of Taliban and al Qaeda leaders to discuss the military's operation in South Waziristan. Among those in attendance were Siraj Haqqani, Abu Yahya al Libi, Abdul Haq, and two senior deputies of Mullah Abdullah Zakir. The US appears to have targeted al Qaeda’s senior leadership as it met with Baitullah.â€
SNIP....
The US is set to exceed last year's total of 36 airstrikes in Pakistan, as the Obama team has continued Bush’s controversial strategy of using unmanned drones to attack Taliban and jihadists in Afghanistan and Pakistan with mixed results. Although this latest airstrike appears to be a success, the U.S. has also killed innocent civilians on occasion which could cause them to lose local support for the war against terrorism. Syed Samsam Ali Bukhari, Pakistan's minister of state for information and broadcasting said that the U.S. drone attacks are “counterproductiveâ€.

**** you Bukhari, you terrorist-harboring bastard.
And here's an interesting blog from Hot Air:
Sixty is an enormous number to be killed in a Predator attack, especially given the angst in Pakistan over America targeting its citizens. I can only assume that either the military had good reason to suspect some very big fish were there or else they felt it was critical to send a message to Baitullah Mehsud that his assassination of a rival jihadi this morning who was partnering with the Pakistani military wasn’t about to go unanswered.
