ARLINGTON, Texas (ABP) -- A prominent African-American pastor says Southern Baptist leaders should publicly repudiate comments by a former Southern Baptist Convention officer that he is praying for President Obama to die.
Dwight McKissic, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas, said he had not heard an interview on Fox News Radio in which former SBC second vice president Wiley Drake said he is praying "imprecatory prayer" against Obama.
McKissic, who is asking the SBC this year to adopt a resolution celebrating the election of the nation's first African-American president, said if Drake was identified in the interview as a Southern Baptist, then his remarks should not go unchallenged.

1. A fricken MEN- he needs to be more than repudiated. His words
are indefensible.
All "christ'ians" need to speak up against the kind of thinking this man promotes.
As someone who desires to follow the teachings of Jesus, I'm more than disturbed by what Drake says- and his attempt to hide his hatred behind the mask of 'religion'.
and saddened beyond words by the hatred running rampant in this sad old world.
I, for one, am really happy that Night Owl does his homework before posting anti-Christian articles on DU. ::) ::)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (ABP) -- A Southern Baptist Convention spokesman said June 4 that a former official who is praying for the death of President Obama is out of the denomination's mainstream.
>>>
Oldham told Associated Baptist Press that Drake is not a spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention and his comments do not reflect the actions, resolutions or positions of the denomination.
Of course, I'm sure it's much more fun to post a smear-Christians article than to post the article from the next day...(written 9 days ago)...that does exactly what you'd expect Christians to do. ::)

I was not aware of the SBC spokesman's rebuke of Wiley Drake when I posted the piece calling for it. It just didn't come up when I searched for "Wiley Drake" on Google News. Anyway, thanks for the update.

I can assure you that if posting anti-Christian material requires any kind of work I won't do it. :-)

Maybe it's just from years of writing checks to them, but does anyone else automatically think "Southwestern Bell" when seeing the acronym SBC?
Sorry for the thread drift. :-)
