I've seen some rattlesnakes this big in S.C. ...but not in the Greer area. Ya'll take a look and make comments....then I'll add my 2 cents.

Photoshop?
-
Maybe, maybe not.
I was once out on a reservation in Arizona, and saw a western diamondback slither out across the one lane, dirt road I was on. I pulled the truck to a stop when I saw that his head had crossed the road, just about the time that his tail started making the trip.
Most of the shakey tails I run across are in the 3-6 foot rang for the most part. I would imagine that for a critter to get that big, he'd have to have learned early to stay away from people habitats for most of his life. With that in mind, I'd have to ask, how recently was the golf course put in?

Either that man is VERY strong (which he doesn't appear to be), or it's a photoshop. Furthermore, I'm thinking that almost 100 lbs hanging on the end of a pole like that would bend the pole.
Speaking of "poles", it's Schadie's birthday!!

I'm not sure either.
It looks like a plastic ball retriever.
Biggest one I ever saw as around 6'.

I saw a diamondback rattler that measured about 8 feet when I was a kid. The neighbor lady shot it.
Big fat bastard too. I don't recall how many rattles it had, but the rattles were longer than my 8 year old hand.

Maybe that guy should pick some of these tomatoes.

It's an old photography trick called "forced perspective" . Hollywood used it in a lot of old movies to make a monster seem gigantic.

I'm from Arizona, and rattlers can get to be 7 to 8 feet long. That may be a perspective trick.

The best - as in most accurate - visual cue for scale in this pic is where the ball retriever thingey is in contact with the body of the snake. Most likely, the tube that the that red plastic retriever is mounted on is about ¾" in diameter. That means that the retriever itself - the red plastic part - is no more than 1" or so across.
Given that, I just took a pair of dividers, set them to the thickness of the retriever, and then paced off the length of the snakes body. Based on that, I can come up with no more than 68" of body length for the snake in that picture.
It's a hoax. A 5'-8" hoax.

You're all right. It's a hoax with several give aways.....biggest one being superman holding a 100 lbs on the end of stick like it ain't nothing.
At first, I thought it was real. Then I noticed no trees, grass kindda sparse and no hills in the back ground......then the fellows clothes just did look like something you see around here and those building just weren't of type you might see....but I never thought of checking "snopes".
But I have seen some rattlers in the lower part of the state as big as that one appears to be. The swamps down in the lower part of the state is home to all kinds of critters you don't want to run into...... :-)

Biggest rattler thread, and nobody has posted a pic of his old truck yet...?
:lmao:

I thought it was a sexual reference and I always shy away from any with 'biggest' in the title
