Fake military veteran hid under 'ocean of lies'
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/11/veteran.imposter/in...
CNN) -- Richard Strandlof said he survived the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon. He said he survived again when a roadside bomb went off in Iraq killing four fellow Marines. He'd point to his head and tell people he had a metal plate, collateral damage from the explosion.
Richard Strandlof says he didn't mean to cause harm when he lied about being a military veteran.
Crowds ate up his story. He canvassed Colorado appearing at the sides of politicians. Inspiring and seemingly authentic, he spoke on behalf of veterans at the state Capitol.
It turns out the whole thing was a lie. He wasn't at the Pentagon. He was never a Marine. He never served his country. He never graduated from the Naval Academy. He claimed his name was Rick Duncan.
He formed a group called the Colorado Veterans Alliance, and the FBI is now investigating whether he embezzled money as a result.
Where was he on 9/11, the day he said he witnessed heroism firsthand?
"I was in San Jose, California, watching it in horror on TV with a few other people," Strandlof told CNN's Anderson Cooper.
Newly lit.

Here's a release about the Colorado Veterans Alliance's "Congressional Report Card," printed at SquareState, which appears to be a progressive blog focusing on Colorado (http://squarestate.net/diary/7766/colorado-veterans-all... ):
The 111th Congress has been in session for several months and in that time out elected officials have voted and been briefed on several items affecting the veterans and active duty military communities.
This report covers numerous issues important to Colorado's post 9/11 veterans, active duty troops and their families - an responsible end to the Iraq War, closure of Guantanamo Bay, support for homeless veterans and relief for military families facing foreclosure.
He's all yours, DUmbasses!

Why do they always pass themself off as war hero's? Not all vet's are Audie Murphy.

The primitives always want to try and pin things on others while passing the buck on themselves. It's like these 2 nuts lately who shot the doc and the museum guard, these kooks want to pin that to talk radio. But point out to them their own rhetoric about how Iraq is an illegal war and anyone who is in the military is automatically a war criminal, and then how the one who shot those 2 recruiters in Arkansas viewed it the same way, and the primitives are unwilling to step up to the plate and accept responsibility for their own words. They're children, which is why pointing and laughing at them is all they've ever been worth.

Not hardly the same caliber as Jesse MacBeth or this last guy but I'll give it to you.

I remember him as well, but not from FreeRepublic........I think that he was on CU, or perhaps Arfcom, for a while.
As I recall he did serve, but represented himself as a Ranger, when he was not........if memory serves........
I also got along with him as well, and he did "man up" and admit the mistake and apologize
doc

I knew of one at Military.com. Had everyone convinced he was a Navy Pilot. Turned out he was just a train engineer or something like that.
