The new Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, TX. officially opens tonight with a concert headlined by George Strait and Reba McEntire. Parking will cost FORTY DOLLARS. Let that sink in a few seconds. FORTY DOLLARS. Two twenty dollar bills. A tank of gasoline plus. Forty percent of one hundred dollars. The general amount of a monthly water bill.
No word yet on whether or not you get to take the parking space home with you. I'm guessing NOT. But you do get to take home the memories of all the OOOO's and AHHHHH's of marveling at Jerry Jones' ultra-modern state-of-the-future-art monument to SCREWING the public at large and the people of Arlington, TX. in particular. I guess they don't mind, so why should I?
Meanwhile, the destruction of Texas Stadium in Irving, TX. has begun. It was built in 1970-71. SCREW YOU, Irving.

Ah, but to see George, it might be worth it.

I've always said if you build a venue and the purpose of that venue is to charge tens of thousands of people to come and enjoy 2-5 of sports or concert entertainment THEN PARKING SHOULD BE F*CKING INCLUDED IN THE COST OF THE TICKET.

They are expecting around 25,000 vehicles. x$40 = more money than I've seen in a while. I love capitalism.
On the bright side, parking includes a good view of Six Flags Over Texas.

Jeezus. I remember whining about paying $8 to see the Cleveland Indians play in 2006. It was the last sporting event of any type I attended, though we had free tickets.
I just can't see spending that kind of money to be a part of the oooh and aaaaah crowd.
I'd rather be waterboarding, or some such.
-
:o Is that for some 'premium' on-site parking?
Regardless :o
-
And I am guessing the taxpayers subsidized part of the cost for the stadium, right?

The closest you've ever been to waterboarding anybody is dumping your spit valve.........

This is an on-site lot owned & operated by Jerry Jones (or some similar entity), correct? Or is it a city operated parking lot?
-
Redskins parking is the same. Not that I would ever be caught dead at a Skins game.
-
Irving has no real choice the thing costs a ton to maintain and it has no purpose anymore to make it economically viable

I paid $12 to park on Memorial Day for the Diamondbacks game. It's normally $10 but I think they figured they could screw us a little harder since it was a holiday.
