NOT AUTHORIZED TO TAKE MESSAGES????!!!!????
OK, I was just watching Bill Moyers, and I called the White House number (not the comment line) to say that I hope our president watches Moyers as a regular thing and that I hoped he was watching tonight.
This moron actually thinks he can call The Chosen One to tell him to turn it over to Channel 4 real quick. Just wow, the naked gall.
First, I was told that the person answering it was "not authorized to take messages" and was told the comment line hours.
I said, "yeah, but I wanted to say this right now, and you're on the job, right?"
"But MY call is IMPORTANT! Why, if he would just WATCH THIS SHOW..."
Additional info.
At least four times out of five, at the White House switchboard number tonight(202-456-1414), I got some kind of error. I had to dial numerous times before I was connected. I tried again after I got someone to say my piece to, and it took me four-five times to get a person again - same person, I think. (I was trying it as an experiment.)
D'ya think they MAYBE put your number on the *******ed Lunatic list?
Uh - we can bail out apparently infinite corporations, but we cannot staff a line for citizens' comments 24/7???????

I had more to say, but I am sleepy, and am taping Moyers (and have a Netflix DVD of Frost/Nixon, which I am halfway through, in the DVD player) - so I may not be here to mind this thread.

The main thing I got out of Frost/Nixon so far is that pardoning Nixon was a *big* mistake - made people in power think they could get away with things, and they have been.
Yes, there *should* be a double standard. People in power should be held to a *higher* standard.

I do think it's pretty cool that he showed up for a burger and walked around and talked to customers. I will give the guy that much. No matter who the President is, if I was eating a burger and he walked in, I would be pretty shocked and impressed.

He was buying burgers for the dolts at NBC News because Brian Williams was there shadowing him for a day - I think law enforcement would refer to that as stalking, but I digress.
I wouldn't be surprised if at some point during the day Brian Williams put on a black wig and a navy blue dress and pretended to be Monica Lewinsky for President Obama, but we won't see that on NBC news, now will we?

Have you ever been around one of these Presidential Pop-ins? It is ANYTHING but. It is staged to the max.
The SS comes in two hours ahead of the president. The place is locked down with those who want to stay. No one in. No one out.

LOL......I was about 5 years old when a drunk called the White House and asked for Harry Truman.
My dad, my great uncle and a couple of friendly half drunk drunks were sitting around my great uncles office late one afternoon. They were discussing politics. The consensus was that they ought to tell Harry what to do. One of the drunks claimed he knew Harry and the White House phone #. Well, you know how much they believed him. The drunk got the phone and placed a long distance call anyway. He got off the phone and said "Harry" was busy at the moment but would call later. They all laughed and made fun of him. A few minutes later the phone rang and my great uncle answered the phone, it was the white House. The lady instructed him to please hold for the president, he laughed and started to hang up......then Harry came on the line wanting to know what they wanted......The drunk said, "Told you I knew Harry. Now let me talk to him."
About 14 years later I was going to college in the city where my great uncle and the drunk lived. I hung around them on weekends and some afternoons...oh the stories I could tell. The old drunk was a trip.
