I have some 4¢ stamps from the 60s. People still called Muhammed Ali, "Cassius Clay" for the most part. I miss American Bandstand. I used to watch it all of the time. The 60s had it good times for some and not so good times for others. I wish we could return the the same mentality & morality that we had in the early Sixties. The late 60s were a whole 'nother thing.

I have vague recollections

Annual inflation over this period was about 4.43%.

Wow, four decades later, we really haven't advanced our standard of living at all.

Popcorn for $1.35? In 2009? I don't think so. You gotta take out a second mortgage to buy popcorn and a soda at the movies anymore. By the time you buy your tickets at $8.50 a pop, two sodas and a tub of popcorn, you're looking at $30 shot in the ass.

I dunno about that. The advances in healthcare have really changed how we cure/treat many illnesses even though DUmmies complain about the "terrible state of healthcare in the US".

The national debt is the eyeopener.
When I was a kid I wanted to see the Taylor/Burton movie "Cleopatra". I was really into ancient Egypt and kings and queens at the time. But due to Elizabeth Taylor's unprecedented one million dollar fee demand, and the flamboyant production in general, the theaters were forced to charge a dollar per ticket. My parents refused to pay that extorted amount. Keep in mind that equates to less than seven dollars today.
So, let's take the average today's ticket price, say $7.50 and convert that amount to 1965 dollars. That would be $50.54.
Back in the 1960's the price of a movie ticket and the price of a gallon of gas was just about the same. What happened? No one balks. No call for a take over of "Big Movie".
We need Universal Entertainment Care!

It is just a comparison of buying power then and now, not a statement of current prices. That's the point, really. In the great scheme of things all-things-Hollywood is way out of whack with just about everything else except cars.

Given 99% of what has come from Hollyweird lately, I'm not sure I'd go if the tickets were just $1. I just have a better use of my time than that.

That would include sporting events also, right?

Oh please! That's a given.

I've seen some comparison prices of tickets from the 60's to today. Really sad.
