My partner of 6 years refused to go to the hospital when we thought she had appendicitis.
Her body was shaking in pain and she was sobbing. She wouldn't go because if it was appendicitis or a ruptured ovarian cyst, they'd have to operate and she was afraid they'd refuse to let her see me. She kept crying "They'll take you away from me! They'll take you away from me!"
Then your partner is a ****ing nutbag and needs counseling.
Basically she's so traumatized by the idea of being separated from me that'd she'd rather die at home from a curable illness with me by her side than risk dying alone knowing that I'm in a waiting room begging to see her with homophobic nurses telling me I'm not "family."
Yes, nurses are homophobic for enforcing rules. They probably SEEM homophobic to a fag because they have work to do and refuse to deal with your bullshit histrionics.
She didn't have much of a fever, if she did I was going to call an ambulance because I am too small to physically force her to go. I was afraid, of course, that the EMTs would not allow me to ride with her.
****ing shit, are you guys GAY, or SIAMESE TWINS? Do you follow her into the bathroom when she takes a shit?
Her fever didn't rise, and it wasn't appendicitis. And we don't know if it was that caused the pain. She is afraid to go to the doctors in general because she knows she won't go to the hospital for an operation.
Yeah, they might perform a dyke-ectomy?
And all this stress is on top of the financial burden of hospital bills. Even though we have insurance for the first time in years, we have a 30% copay. And if my partner was in the hospital, we'd lose our benefits in a few months because she has to work a certain number of hours a week or she loses the insurance--and hospitalizations count.
I have a 100% copay at the grocery store and gas station. So do you. Why are you squawking?
Who EXACTLY is included in the American system anymore? Considering the treatment of LGBT people; the treatment of vets returning from with suicidal depression, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, sexual abuse issues, and total despair--all from wars they know are pointless; the treatment of the average working American (not to mention immigrants) by the banks that own their homes and workplaces; the hundreds of thousands of college grads sucked down by student loan debt they can't pay off.
Holy class action! We went from one insane rugsucker to everyone in America not named me!
Who EXACTLY is living this "American Dream" I hear so much about? The rightwing scum who drain the rest of us for profit (work and war) or for sadistic thrills (gaybashing/racism)?
I am, and it's WONDERFUL.
People are tired. Not just gay people. Most people. We're tired.
Of bullshit lies, like your story? Yes, we're tired.
Either a lie, or reflective of simple stupidity (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5723120)

Personally, I suspect the liemoreoften primitive is just being hysterical.

I suspect there is a small amount of truth in that story somewhere but I'm sure she has embellished it way beyond what would seem to be the real truth.

Well now, that's just ****ing stupid.

Too bad, lesbo. That's the hand you dealt yourself, so learn to live with your cards.
Ann Boleyn had six fingers on one hand. She didn't demand that from then on all gloves must have six fingers.

WTF? A coworker was injured in a snowmobile accident, hip broken and the big bone (femur?) that attaches to the hip was broken in 4 places. He was off work for over a year, even his portion of the premiums were covered by the insurance.

That partner is seriously psycho in this story, true or not. Look, can someone from states other than NY enlighten me? Is this hospital visitation deal a true problem? Cause it's not here. You can have anybody, as long as you're not coding. It's a NON-ISSUE and I see it brought up with much hand-wringing all the time on the DU.

From my experience it's the same in Georgia. I've visited many males in the hospital who weren't family without any problem. Of course maybe it's because I'm a normal heterosexual. Maybe if I died my hair pink and went in wearing a tutu they would try to stop.

YOU are living this "American Dream". You are able to flaunt your abnormal lifestyle without being put to death. Try that in one of the countries from which your "freedom fighters" (known to normal folks as terrorists) come.

This has got to be the worst bouncy tale ever. There is nothing believable or entertaining in it at all.

I'm sorry, but I had my appendix out, and I was in the hospital for less than 24 hours. If you can't handle being separated from your partner for 24 hours, then there are probably some co-dependency issues.
I know I live in California, but I was under the impression that for the most part you can approve who ever you want to visit you in the hospital. When I visited my dad and my grandma in the hospital, I just walked in their room. The only time I even had to explain who I was was when my dad was in post-op after he had open heart surgery, and once he was moved to his own room, nobody ever questioned me
Also, a note to any DUmmies who are reading, I never ran a fever when I had appendicitis. I didn't have an elevated white blood cell count either. The doctor had an MRI done because he was very suspicious of my symptoms even without the fever. The next time you suspect appendicitis, have her go to the freaking hospital.

Which is probably why there are very, very, VERY few DUmmies who have ever served in the military. ....and I question the ones that said they did.
