This Morning I kissed my husband goodbye as I left work. By Dinner I could be Unmarried.
This morning as I readied myself for work I awoke my husband, we have been together for almost 15 years (not bad for someone who is 35) and we were married on Oct 16, 2008.
I sat on the bed putting my shoes on, reached over and stroked my cat "Ginger". I got up, bent over and gently kissed by sleeping husband on the forehead. In a half awake, half asleep voice he said, "I love you"...
When I see him again tonight he may no longer be my husband. He and I, and our love will once again make him my "friend" or "partner" or "roommate", all terms we have had used for us...
I ask for those that do not care one way or the other, to think about this... to think about the fact that right now, at this very moment, MY LIFE IS OUT OF MY HANDS. I am a nameless faceless person who waits for a court to tell me if I am married...
I am freaked out... sad, and hurt.

Gee, maybe you shoulda blown him, at least (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5721703)
If it makes you feel any better, HomoDUmmy, a state larger than most countries voted on the matter. It wasn't in the hands of a single court.
Today could be a GREAT day in DUmmyland...absolutely GREAT. :hyper:

If it makes you feel any better, HomoGoon, he wasn't your "husband" this morning either. A man, even one as questionable as you, cannot have a "husband". He's just a dude who shares a house with you and indulges in deviant sex acts. All this will continue this afternoon regardless of the court's opinion.
I sometimes call my little dog my "baby". That doesn't make it true though. She's really just a dog.

Good grief, Charlie Brown!

California awaits court's gay marriage decision
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The nation's most populous state stood poised to recapture the spotlight in the debate over gay marriage as California's highest court prepared to rule on the legality of a voter-approved ban on same-sex unions.
The California Supreme Court planned to hand down its decision Tuesday in a series of lawsuits seeking to overturn November's Proposition 8. Gay rights advocates maintain the ballot measure so dramatically revised the state constitution's equal protection clause that it needed the Legislature's approval before it could be put to voters.
If the seven-member court upholds the initiative as a constitutional expression of the electorate's will, it also will be deciding whether to sustain the marriages of an estimated 18,000 gay couples who wed before the measure passed with 52 percent of the vote.
*snip*
But based on the skeptical questions raised during oral arguments, legal experts have doubted the same four justices would undermine California's powerful citizen initiative process by invalidating the new ban.
*snip*
Activists in the San Francisco Bay area, including several clergy members, said they planned to block the street outside the courthouse and to be arrested in a mass show of civil disobedience if the justices do not invalidate the measure.
The story goes on to outline "how many communities of faith stand with gay couples on this issue". Guess their copies of the Bible omitted this verse:
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.
Leviticus 18:22

Hey DUer when you come home nothing will be different. You will still be a couple, your friends will still be your friends, your job will still be your job. If you need a court or a law to affirm your life, then you are just one strange and weak-willed person

I got up, bent over
I almost stopped reading at that point. :p My God, the writing style is worse than Ladies Home Journal.

It's pretty pathetic if you need the outside world to validate your relationship. You want to have a ceremony, exchange rings, and consider yourself married...good for you! What the hell difference does it make if an impersonal government or a bunch of strangers you never met think you're married? Don't be so freaking insecure.
