Alan Grayson to introduce Paid Vacation Act
Rep. Alan Grayson was standing in the middle of Disney World when it hit him: What Americans really need is a week of paid vacation.
So on Thursday, the Florida Democrat will introduce the Paid Vacation Act — legislation that would be the first to make paid vacation time a requirement under federal law.
The bill would require companies with more than 100 employees to offer a week of paid vacation for both full-time and part-time employees after they’ve put in a year on the job. Three years after the effective date of the law, those same companies would be required to provide two weeks of paid vacation, and companies with 50 or more employees would have to provide one week.
The idea: More vacation will stimulate the economy through fewer sick days, better productivity and happier employees.
“There’s a reason why Disney World is the happiest place on Earth: The people who go there are on vacation,†said Grayson, a freshman who counts Orlando as part of his home district. “Honestly, as much as I appreciate this job and as much as I enjoy it, the best days of my life are and always have been the days I’m on vacation.â€
Someone working 40 hrs a week gets a week off, and so does the person working 10 hrs a week? WTH???
Paid vacation is a privilege and this idiot wants to make it a right? WTH???
Just what we need...more gubmint meddling in businesses. :banghead:

It's just another way to drive up the cost of doing business. What most people don't realize is that a weeks vacation costs the employer more than a weeks salary. It also costs the employer a weeks worth of production and profit.

Has anyone mentioned this is unconstitutional? Hasn't the Supreme Court put a brake on the convoluted idea that any and all things relate to "interstate commerce"?

The Constitution is a living , breathing document meant to be interpreted by the legislature and president, then verified by the courts. [/DUmode]

The key words are Florida Democrat (BTW, never heard of him before)

Then why are they always trying to strangle the breath out of it?

So the DUmmies get a week off from eating Cheetos and hitting the bong in Mom's basement to do what, exactly?
Eat more Cheetos, hit the bong again, and sit in Mom's basement?

In a sane world, that would mean the 10-hour-a-week part-timer would be getting 10 paid hours off, not 40, but you never know what half-baked madness our elected officials will poop out when the Good Idea Fairy smites them.

So the DUmmy that got hired to clean the shit house gets fired after eleven months and another DUmmy is hired to clean the shit house.
Makes sense to me.

There would be a higher turn over rate at minimum wage jobs than there already is, just not as often by the employEEs choice.

...and a lot of companies will stop hiring with that 49th or 99th person.
