Beer tax on tap for health care?
WASHINGTON – Joe Six-Pack may have to hand over nearly $2 more for a case of beer to help provide health insurance for all.
Details of the proposed beer tax are described in a Senate Finance Committee document distributed to lawmakers before a closed-door meeting Wednesday. Senators are focusing on how to pay for expanding health insurance for an estimated 50 million uninsured Americans, a cost that could range to some $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
You can't raise that from beer money alone.
Lawmakers are looking at an extensive list of spending cuts and tax increases, including a new levy on the value of job-based health insurance. The latter proposal seems to be gaining ground. It could lead to higher income taxes for some people with particularly generous job-based health care.

4. Can't we have just one tax that isn't a regressive one?
Increased fees for everything from car registration to passport fees. Where will it end?

7. Im with you
Taxing consumption is just a way for our cowardly politicians not to have to raise taxes on the wealthy.
Especially when the products being taxed are used disproportionately by the middle and lower classes.

5. beer is healthy and nutritious
If we really want to tax noxious substances that are bad for our health, how about we tax Republican millionaires?

6. I drink a fair amount of beer.
And I'd be more than happy to kick over another $2 per case (even though most of the stuff I get doesn't come in packs that big) if it meant I could get guaranteed health care.
Beer snob, the Leon primitive above.
How much does one want to bet that by November 2012 the Leon primitive's going to be reduced to drinking Milwaukee's Best?

8. Yea! More taxes on the poor, like the insane increase on rolling tobacco tax.
I don't think my buddy who smokes rollies will ever vote Democrat again. He is ****ing pissed and I can't defend it.

9. I drink only homebrew and I quit smoking ryo 2 weeks before the taxes took effect...
I wonder what tax will be next. I don't think I can take much more. I have been out of work since July 08 due to a pre-existing health problem (lyme) and have not seen a doc in ages. No health care for or others like me at this rate. Unbelievable

My, my, most of them don't seem to be feeling very patriotic!
:rotf:

White Sox, Apple Pie, Fat Che's Little Brothert Blue Ribbon Beer. And Sin Taxes. Not much more patriotic that that. Just makes all those little micro brews and the Stella that I drink more expensive. Beer and Cheetos do not mix well anyway. and how do they all sneak it past their mothers an the way to the basement?
-
I figured out a while back how to brew my own beer. Screw the pols and their tax hikes.
-
IIRC, didn't Teh One promise us that no one making under 250,000 would see a tax increase of any kind? :fuelfire:

Useless hypocrites.

How about taxing private health insurance companies $2 bucks on each denied claim
Denied claims? Big deal. Just wait for Denied Treatment coming your way with USDem-o-Care. Idiot.

Why cheat yourself. Tax the noxious democrat millionaires/billionaires. There are more of them and they don't already give as much away to society as the Republican "rich". Let's start at the Kennedy compound and work our way to Oprah, Ill.
Yea! More taxes on the poor, like the insane increase on rolling tobacco tax.
Did you really think Dick Cheney was going to be the only one footing the bill for treating your STDs?

If there was an obesity tax that herd from the last meet-up wouldn't have been able to afford the restaurant.

They don't call them stereotypes for nothing.

That bit of troof, is gonna leave a black eye.

I've never seen such a group of people who are out of work or can't work due to "health problems". Only one of the primitives comes right and admits that she just doesn't want to work and won't work, and is proud of the fact that she prefers to leech off the labor of others (and even that one rationalises it because of all the "volunteer work" she does. I forget the name of that one). But they still want all the things that others people work to get.

Beer drinkers don't pay their fair share....
Hey, it sounded like a good DUmmie line to me.

Translation: I'm sick of these taxes that affect me! How dare they try to tax me to pay for the benefits that I use!

Denied claims? Big deal. Just wait for Denied Treatment coming your way with USDem-o-Care. Idiot.
There would be no more denied claims....just an infinite waiting list. :rotf:

these people didn't know they were next?? They should read some Ayn Rand

Funny how taxes are so wonderful if its other people paying them but make the dummies pay their "fair share" and the howling begins.
