TY for the link!
I thought this was a good response to DUmbasses complaining about what a "waste" of money the space program is.
There has always been the dissent that we should not "waste" money and human capital on exploring space, that there are too many problems on Earth that need fixing first. To that there are many possible responses, some practical (i.e. Why did the dinosaurs go extinct?- Because they had no space program). But a cultural and philosophical response is equally valid: What we do as a country militarily, and through our international commerce, is mainly just maintenance, trying to deal with the day-to-day needs of economic and nationalistic survival. These imperatives will always exist. Turning our vision to the stars shows we also can dream beyond our Earthly limits. No other species has ever done this. This is priceless.
