Morning, folks. My children are off today so we will probably just do some crafty things and such around here. Maybe it will warm up again--I hope. It was 60 something here yesterday with an awesome breeze. I love weather like that...reminds me of the beach.
Not much else to say about that. So who is off today, who is working, etc etc?
TOTD: What is your decorating style(guys, it's ok for you to contribute too and not be teh gay :lmao:)? Style of house, the indoor decor, whatever?
For me, I'm all about the beach anyway I can get it(beach cottage type of stuff) and if not that then a real lush French cottage kind of look.
I love lighthouses, but let's face it--that isn't ever going to happen. :lmao: I love the Caribbean type of bungalows like this

I couldn't ask for anything else if I had a view like this
http://www.cuttageebeachcottages.com.au/beach1.jpg
I seriously...I'm die! LOL
I love light colors, comfortable, casual...I'm not formal in my home unless its a 'special' dinner or something.
As for inside...I love the blues in a French country style like this
http://www.wmohs.com/gallery/kitchens/images/kitchen10.jpg
or something more rustic with the exposed brick like this
http://www.china-kitchen-cabinets.com/designer/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/french.jpg
I'm not into the real modern look that is popular now...I like the brick and cobblestone and slate and things like that.

Off work today, Mrs. Sparky is here with me but has a work project to do before she leaves tomorrow.
TOTD: Early Sports Bar deco. I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of my dining room table that I never use and putting in a poker table.

I'm a beach person too. I've never lived near the ocean. I may not be a beach person if I did, but I'm willing to try.
I intend to live here one day:

By that time I may need a wheelchair adapted for sand travel, but I'll be happy nonetheless -

Mr Flame is off today, as are the kids. Nothing exciting planned, though. The boys have dentisit appts, and they have asked to go to the ball field to hit/field balls. We'll see how the weather is cooperating later. Supposed to be warm, but it may be raining, too.
TOTD: I don't know what kind of style it is...not modern, and not country, but somewhere in between. Definitely a casual atmosphere around here. As for views, I like nature, so either something in the mountains with no houses around, or a private beach would be my top 2 picks.
-
Well, moving out has been put off by a couple of days, due to my work and school schedules preventing me from getting all my stuff together. I'll be okay. May have to make the school library my second home. LOL
TOTD: Favorite decorating style? Well, I have a fondness for tropical styles (my room has walls painted in silver sage (shade of green), and has a wall border of a tropical paradise. I also have these bamboo blinds on the windows, which really helps the room stand out, along with the antique bed, desk and vanity.
I also love the log cabin look, as I LOVE the North Georgia mountains.

It just has that cozy look that I like. :)

It's 65 here today. Woot!
TOTD: Hmmm...that's a hard one. My style is probably a bit of traditional with some contemporary and Asian thrown in. I love deep, rich colors, and things that are African/Asian inspired in terms of art. I have lots of pieces from all over the world (drums, masks, daggers, swords, antiques, rugs, etc..) it looks like a street bazaar in here. I don't like: country, frilly, feminine, pastels, frou frou, etc..)
If I had to pick someone to do my house, I would pick this woman - http://web.hgtv.com/hgtv/web/portfolioSearchResults?searchType=Portfolio&Room=&Style=&Designer=Candice+Olson&x=6&y=2

No, wouldn't matter if you lived there either. I can put up with a lot that beachside brings as far as the bad to just be near it. And that is gorgeous, but a bit scary in that it looks like its built on little more then a glorified sandbar.

Candice Olson does some nice work.

That's South Padre Island, Tx. It's been there as long as recorded history. I don't think it's a temp. :)

Part of the fun is looking like it is, eh? Good call, Undies. That's beautiful.

It's about a 10 hour drive from where I sit right now. If I leave now I could be there about the time the party's getting started. :)

Frosty but fine here.

I like simplicity too, bij, but that is a bit too understated for my comfort. Yes, I realize it is designed to inspire art, but can't there be a curve somewhere?
-
bijou - that is beautiful but it feels "cold" to me. I want to paint and add stuff LOL!

That's the purpose of it, Dixie. It is suppose to inspire you to be creative. Think of it as a well designed blank canvas.
-
Well my first thought was, "Oh, this is great! There's nothing in here. I can add a bunch of stuff and paint!" :-)

You could add any shade of white you desire. :-) I suppose it comes from living in a busy city and dealing with people all day at work, the thought of coming home to that sort of tranquility and peace in the evening is heavenly.

My boss left early today and isn't expected back until Thursday. :) Since the mail didn't come because of the holiday, I have no work to do right now. I even made my "where's my money" phone calls already today.
TOTD: My house is contemporary. My living/dining room is painted Desert Sand. I like simple no frills stuff.

I can see why it's appealing. I guess you'd have to be willing to part with your "stuff" though. I like coming home to somewhere cozy that's filled with the things I love like pictures and books and momentos. I'd be a little unsettled in such a stark place. At least until I got used to it.

I'm too picky to settle on one decorating style. It would depend on the house and location. Some days I think I might like a New England timber-frame cottage, some days I want simple post-modern. I'd like to take up woodworking and make furniture that MATCHES instead of living with the garage-sale chic I currently have.

woo! Normal hours at work for a while. We met our production goal for the month. No more ten-hour days. I don't have to be at work tomorrow until 7am. I get to leave at 3:30, but I wish they would give us more than half an hour for lunch.

That's good to hear, Chris. :)

What? A 1/2 our for lunch? The Constitution says you get 1 hour! And 15 minute breaks every 15 minutes! You need to stand up for your Constitutional Rights! (/DUmmy mode).
Actually, only a 1/2 hour sucks -- that is barely enough time to get outside, open your lunch box/bag, and sit down. It is impossible to go to even a fast food place in that time. Without understanding more of what you do, I am not quite sure what to think -- that seems awfully short.

If you work more than 7 hours in a day where I work, you get an hour break (at least, those who are in customer service do, anyway).

Since I go to the bank for work, if I have to get something I get it then. Then I come back and eat. I don't clock out because I'm only taking a 15 minute lunch. I'd rather leave early.

I swear we have the sorriest 'security' guard at work. He just stands there with the metal-dector wand but if you beep on the way out of the metal detector, he just tells you to go back through. I think he just uses the wand on the ladies so he has an excuse to talk to them (or rub on 'em).
