'I'm a boy-girl,' says 8-year-old
You have to admire the parents for doing what the child wants.

'I'm a boy-girl,' says 8-year-old
After the final bell rings at the west Omaha Catholic school, 8-year-old Ben will give away the last of his boy clothes — his school uniform — and live full time as the person inside: Katie.
Following behavioral testing, therapy and a lot of research, the parents have decided to switch their child to a public school and to let their son live as a girl.
They know the path Katie faces is long, difficult and fraught with controversy. Some scientists say the approach they are taking amounts to child abuse. Other scientists say any other response would be abuse.
What might seem like a drastic, life-altering decision for their child is in fact the culmination of years of words and deeds that convinced Katie's parents, extended family members and therapists of this: She is a girl born into a boy's body.
In the Sunday World-Herald and e-Edition, read how the family came to its decision.

1. That's a girl
If at an age where all they meet is ridicule for their "choice" they still push forward to define themselves as something other than they were determined to be earlier - if that makes any sense - then Katie is a girl.
I don't get this harsh level of gender assignment - it makes no sense to me.
Harsh level of gender assignment?

2. I wonder how Katie was when she decided to be a girl
How wonderful that the parents are supporting her! Best of luck to Katie and her family in the years to come. If current society is any indication, they're going to need it.

3. That is a wonderful set a parents.
I would love to know more about how Katie has expressed this to the family and how the family came to this decision. I'm sure that there is a pretty big and deep story here.
I really hope they have enough outside professional support in all the right places, and friends who love and support them, to keep hateful people from making their lives unbearable. I really hope things go well in Katie's life.
To all of them, Please be well.
The DU-pervert needs more details!

Some people need to be shot. I'd start with the parents.

The least they should do is "FIX" the parents......God, we don't need anymore little Katies running around.

These parents aren't being investigated for child abuse? An 8 year old is to be indulged in such a fantasy? This one is truly beyond comprehension.

While my fellow Nebraskan Omaha Steve seems all agog and excited about this, I'm left wondering.
How is it possible nature makes "mistakes"?
I thought nature knew what it was doing.
Isn't trying to "correct" nature something the same thing along the lines of pouring arsenic into rivers or decapitating mountains or growing genetically-modified foods?
What's the difference between a "sex change" and all this other stuff?
From here on out, I suppose it's reasonable to assume my good friend Omaha Steve is in favor of, for example, genetically-modified foods.

By the way, I need to say something in defense of my fellow Nebraskan, Omaha Steve, who's rated as a non-primitive on Skins's island, the highest rating.
franksolich rather enjoys Omaha Steve, because we have something in common.
Omaha Steve, like franksolich, likes to attract an audience.
Omaha Steve likes to attract an audience on Skins's island.
franksolich likes to attract primitives away from Skins's island; i.e., the primitive lurkers here.
Omaha Steve knows what keeps the primitives there; franksolich knows what brings the primitives here.
Omaha Steve doesn't really believe 99% of the bonfires he lights on Skins's island, but as it works in drawing an audience, he adeptly uses it. If an audience wants junk, one tosses junk out there to the audience.
You can trust me; Omaha Steve is an allrightnik; he doesn't really believe this stuff.

If you say so Frank. :-)
I thought my headline was a rather appealing way to attract eyes to the thread.
We all know there are not many gays in Nebraska, but I still bet Steve is one of them. :-)

Yea I'm sure if my son had issues like this the first thing I'd do is run to the newspaper and get them to publish an article all about it, just so a bunch of moonbats can tell me what a wonderful parent I am.

In a way, I can identify with this kid. Beginning in about the seventh grade, I developed an overwhelming desire for female bodies. All the other guys in my class were the same way. Does that count?
-
I don't know what it is about kids being put in adult situations that makes liberals cream their jeans. This reminds me of the 7-year-old girl who was going to fly an airplane across the USA. It ended up getting her, her dad, and an another enabler killed. But before the crash, TV liberals were all a-twitter over her. I considered it murder.

Once when I was 3 years old I put my feet in my mothers shoes and tried to walk around the house.
Was I supposed to be a girl?

Why do the parents indulge this crap? Let me guess, Little Ben walks all over his parents in everything else, too. I imagine that he only has to eat what he likes and nothing he doesn't, has a TV in his room, has no set bed time, has any toy he ever asked for, and generally receives no punishment when he breaks whatever meager rules they have. Then he starts this "I'm really a girl" routine, which is probably somewhat an act of rebellion at that age, and instead of finally stepping in and correcting such silly notions, and his parents endorse it. Maybe they really do need to start liscensing who can and can not have offspring.

As young as age 2, Ben would use anything he could find to create long hair.
Last fall in gym class, a classmate told Ben he was a boy. Ben responded by spitting on the classmate.
But in a few years, Katie could join the first generation of U.S. children receiving hormone therapy to first forestall puberty and then make the body outwardly conform to the female identity. Genital reconstruction surgery could be the final step after she turns 18.
If the parents go through with this, they need to shot.
Going through the article, I see a pattern of indulgence.
