US soldier fights Taliban wearing pink shorts

Zachary Boyd, 19, was asleep when enemy fighters attacked his base in the Korengal Valley in Kunar province.
He had enough time to put on is helmet and body armour but had to dispense with his uniform before joining his comrades in manning their bunker.
Unfortunately, the resulting unorthodox approach to battle camouflage – pink "I love NY" underwear and a bright red T-shirt – was captured by an Associated Press photographer.
Army Specialist Boyd phoned home to warn his family in Texas that the photo was about to appear on the front page of the New York Times.

of our service members ever! I love it and am so forwarding this to my brother (who was over there not long ago).
He should be commended too; he jumped into action with only his jammies still on.

Who cares if he's in his underwear? I don't think he's a sissy, if he's fighting in the Middle East. He might be wrong for being there (I hate war and don't trust the justifications for it) but I don't think he's a coward.

Amazing isn't it that all the other men and "women" had sufficient time to get dressed and get to their posts while this Texas Cowboy didn't have time to cover his "girly underwear". What did he think he could do, "Insult and Shame" Muslims and scare them away? As his commanding officer I'd give him a week of extra detail on Kitchen Patrol and suggest he sleep in his camouflage pants.

Do you know what it's like to be woken by an alarm that tells your mind you're about to die. My husband served in the first gulf war and night after night there were sirens going off warning of an impending chemical attack. Most of the soldiers barely got their gas masks on in the time it takes to die from chemical poisoning much less get their pants and shoes on. Oh and in war, "sissies" is not a word anyone should use to describe a soldier.

Oh and maybe we should talk about the real sissies - those republican men who hide behind a woman - you know let the woman take the fall for their evil decisions on war, torture and lies. You certainly don't have the same priorities in mind as I do!

NBC News went to his parents house. His father said that he cracked up laughing when he saw his son, who seems to prefer boxer shorts.
Zachary had a scholarship, but chose to go in the military.
These guys are fighting the Taleban, who hate women and LGBTs and consider kite flying to be anti-Islamic.
^sounds like a compliment to our troops!

No offense to the normal ones but I just love it when someone claims to be an expert on the military because they happen to be a military spouse. I have to deal with one of those. Just because her husband is one rank above mine she knows all there is to know about the military. But she never served a day in her life. But me, the veteran, who happens to be a navy wife needs her guidance about military life.

No offense to the normal ones but I just love it when someone claims to be an expert on the military because they happen to be a military spouse. I have to deal with one of those. Just because her husband is one rank above mine she knows all there is to know about the military. But she never served a day in her life. But me, the veteran, who happens to be a navy wife needs her guidance about military life.
I don't see her claiming to be an expert in anything. I can tell the same exact story from when my father was in Desert Storm. She was defending the guy from attacks from the DUmmies. No sense in jumping on her.

No, Under-Turd, you ignorant wretch.
We wear the "flip-flops" for shoes in the shower so your feet do not come in contact with the floor where all the various forms of communal fungi congregate. It's a hygene thing which probably explains your lack of familiarity. On our dowtime we wear them because they can be put faster than boots.

Not jumping on her specifically. I saw that after I had to deal with that person and I snapped. LOL
But there are a few over there that are like that.
